Hello Marcin, š
Wow! you were right about how ridiculous that title was, huh?!? š® Satch didn’t criticize Stu Hamm here?!? He merely stated where his heart and the majority of his musical interests were. How is that a criticism (like you said!) I would bet that this was something Joe would have said to Stu’s face as a matter of accurate fact. I think you’re right, that this guy was probably bored and was looking to “stir the pot” with that title. Jeez!
This actually reminded me of a YouTube video (low-quality, BTW) of Shawn Lane doing a “question & answer” segment at a clinic, where he gets asked his opinion about Paul Gilbert. (This was obviously WAY back in the early 1990’s!) Shawn Lane respectfully explained that he had been introduced to Paul Gilbert through Mike Varney (President of Shrapnel Records.) Anyways, Shawn just mentions that he thought Paul was a really good “rock” player who dug a lot of older “classic-70’s rock.” (I think he cited Todd Rundgren or Pat Travers…anyways) Shawn then went on to explain that he (himself) was more into Jazz and fusion music and that he was trying to get Paul Gilbert into some jazzier stuff, but after about ten minutes of it “his (Gilbert’s) head was about to explode!” which got quite a deserved chuckle out of the clinic audience! Now I don’t see this as Shawn Lane criticizing Paul Gilbert at all! I see this as a mutual admiration of two awesome musicians (BTW Paul Gilbert speaks of Shawn Lane in VERY glowing and superlative terms! – “Shawn Lane is the MOST TERRIFYING shred-guitarist of ALL-TIME!”) and an honest assessment of one’s style by the other. I certainly WOULD NOT classify this anecdote as “A very public criticism of Paul Gilbert by Shawn Lane!” Come on, right?!?
P.S. On the bright side, I did enjoy the completely unrelated “hottie photo-galleries” off to the right side of the screen, when you clicked on that link! (he he!) š
