Hey Folks! š
I’m 99% sure that I’m going to install an All-Parts Tremol-No onto my Ibanez RG1570. I know that Lyle Watt mentioned using one recently, so I guess my questions are these:
1. How painless/easy was the installation?
2. How do you like the Tremol-No’s performance?
3. Do you notice an improvement in sustain, as some have claimed?
I would be psyched if Lyle and/or anyone else chimes-in on these questions! š
Also, I’m contemplating changing my RG1570’s bridge-pickup. Any recommendations? I’m looking for something that has LOTS of sustain and midrange (for leads), but dynamic enough to “clean-up” when rolling the volume knob back!
Thanks guys! š

Sorry to display my ignorance but what is a Tremol-No?
Tom, it’s a device that can lock down the trem on your guitar, allowing you to detune and what not without having to reset the trem. Also great, if like me, you’re sick of the trembut don’t want to sell the guitar to buy a hardtail. – http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xiZnipHc1ec
Bill, it was a completely painless installation – (dad did it :D) But really, it’s not a complicated job. Adjusting the pin can be a wee bit annoying, but that’s just cos the thing is so goddamn small!
It works really well, I’ve got mine locked down in hardtail mode permanently and it hasn’t moved at all. You can’t rip all the strings off your guitar and expect it to stay, there’s too much tension on the tremol-no then, but I have snapped 2 strings at the same time (god knows how) and it’s tuning holds perfectly. I’ve got an EVH D-Tuna fitted to the trem now so i can Drop-D on the fly, and it’s awesome.
There is an increase in sustain, not much but it is there.
Hope I helped,
LyleWow! I’m gonna have to buy one of these. Does this mean I can unlock the nut and be able to switch between 4ths and standard tuning without having to reset the bridge every time? That would be the Holy Grail!!!!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Tom, but it doesn’t work on the ZR trem š
However there is another solution – 2 blocks of wood either side of the trem block
Well, I just bought a pin-type C tremol-no, for a JS1000 Ibanez I bought. Didn’t care much for it. The main problem for me was that when I did whammy work (think less Vai, more IA Eklundh/Bumblefoot stuff), the tremol-no prevented the tremolo from returning to perfect 0. I’d always have to make sure to yank it a little upwards to be sure. Also, When tightening the screws on the back, it tended to go a little off pitch, no matter how careful I was. This might be due to that the tremol-no was used, and maybe thus not a frictionless as it could be. However, I did make sure I installed it as should be, and also lubed it up with Big Bends Nut Sause. In the end, I sold it 2 days later. I’l just use 2 guitars instead.
Richard, I had the same problem. The pin wasn’t tightened properly, that’s the problem you’re having. And the screw tightening thing is just cos the screws on top of the claw aren’t locked down enough either.
Hey Guys, š
Thanks for your input! Now I’m really confused! (LOL!) But seriously, I appreciate your honesty and experience, because I’ve never used one, but I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. š
Richard, I definitely trust your assessment, although you did admit that it was a used unit, so I guess there’s a bit of an unknown variable there?
Lyle, I didn’t realize that you got it to be 100% stop-tailpiece! Wow, you must be getting old, ya know, now that your 16-yo! It’s all downhill from there! (Just kidding obviously!) Lyle, you have excellent “feel” & vibrato in general, so with the exception of some tricks (whammy-bombs, flutters, modulated-harmonics, etc.) you can function fine without it. ;)That being said, I do enjoy some players who have made the whammy-bar into part of their expressive-voice/palette. (Jeff Beck, EVH, Vai, Shawn Lane, etc.) I think that’s what Richard was probably alluding to is the “expressive” use of the bar, as opposed to some of the extra “shock-value” bar-work. I think Steve Vai does both really well. I like when he swoops into phrases, (a la Jeff Beck) but I also like his occasional “weird-shock tricks” too. (That’s the stuff Richard was probably saying that he’s NOT so much into using his bar for!)
BTW guys, I’m on a big Lundmark “kick” lately! Richard’s the BALLS, isn’t he!?! š Man, I love the way that cat plays! I’ve said it many times. All these IG instructors are great in their own ways! š
Ya know what Lyle? I went through a similar thing back in 1990. I had owned Floyd Rose equipped guitars from 1985-1990, and then I just had this inkling to go no-trem (or at least no locking-trem!) So that’s when I sold my Fusia/Orange (Hey it WAS the 80’s OK!!!) Ibanez RG550 and bought my first of what would end up being three Levinson Blade R-4’s (You Euro-dudes may have heard of them from back in the day…Gary Levinson was the guy who designed them. Awesome working guitar.) That first blade I got in 1990 is still my number-1 live “cover” guitar! I’ve literally done over 2000 Gigs with that guitar! š® The only “mod.” I did to that one was I put a Seymour Duncan “Little-’59” mini-humbucker in the bridge position, in place of the stock single-coil. I also put Fender “Texas Special” single-coils in the neck & middle positions. (The only complaint I have about Levinson’s Blade guitars, is that his own pickups are pretty noisy & weak! He should’ve probably gone OEM with Duncan or something like that, IMO!)
Anyways, I think I’ll give the Tremol-No a shot on my RG1570! If it sucks, I’ll just take it out like Richard did! š
Still torn on the Bridge pickup? Ya know, I usually favor most Duncans over Dimarzios, but maybe the RG1570 might be a guitar that best benefits from a Dimarzio in the bridge-position? We’ll see!
Later Guys, and Happy New Year from here in the USA! š

Everything was locked down tight man, as tight as can be without breaking. What I think the problem was, is that the end of the rod wore too much against the opening in the socket. (a new trmol-no probably wouldn’t do this.
LOL. It’s the old blues guy in me coming out Bill.
Ever tried a Duncan Screamin Demon Bill? Mid output pickup, and awesome. I got one from Seymour Duncan when I was in London at put it in my ESP. Really nice pickup
And hey Bill! Thanks for the kind words =) makes for a good start of 2009! Now I have to go play a gig (on new years š But, good money, and at least it means I won’t have a hang-over tomorrow š )
Oh and Bill, for you!
I remebered I have a very old full-length metal concert with a previous band uploaded on google video =) Please enjoy a (much) leaner Richard, with some rock-chops through a (discont.) ELmwood 3100!@Richard Lundmark 6127 wrote:

woops, i missed the used bit. That’s probably more like it lol
LOL. It’s the old blues guy in me coming out Bill š However, I don’t think I’d buy another guitar without a trem, i still use them too much. I just like having one guitar for mucking around with, and that’s my JS.

EDIT : Woops, I meant to edit my last post! Anyone fancy deleting the old one for me?

Hey Lyle, š
You old-timer! (LOL!)
Anyways, thanks for the recommendation on the “Screamin Demon.” Is that really a “medium-output” pickup? I thought that was George Lynch’s (Dokken, Lynch Mob) signature pickup? Am I right? I thought he would’ve been into a “high-output” humbucker? I dunno though. I was never really a big Dokken fan, although George Lynch certainly CAN play (good rock/metal chops.) However, I saw them once (as part of a quad-bill back in 1988 called the “Monsters of Rock!” Metallica opened, then Dokken played, then The Scorpions played third (and they were surprisingly REALLY good!) then Van Halen headlined! Ahh, those were the “good-old-days!” š® I digress…) I thought George Lynch was REALLY STIFF though! (He looked like he was all “coked-out!” He probably was! After all, it was the “80’s!”) š® Anyways, that sort of turned me off from George Lynch.
Sorry, I’m babbling as usual! Maybe I’ll try that “Screamin’ Demon” pickup Lyle! Thanks for the advice. I’ll look it up. I think Duncan is good about explaining the specs of their pickups, so I’ll check their website! Thanks bro! (Since Lynchy usually uses Floyd-equipped guitars, and his tone is usually pretty good, maybe that would be a good fit for my RG1570? I’ll let you know bro!) š
So Lyle, I have your approval on a “new” Tremol-No on my RG1570, right?!? š
TTYS! š

I just got around to watching your old metal-show from 2002! That was a lot of fun! I liked some of the material too. I thought you and the singer was pretty good (at that style) and the other guitarist (rhythm player) had some decent riffs, but YOU were clearly the one who was uber-dedicated to his instrument! (LOL!) BTW, your tone (even back then, as it always is NOW) was awesome! You have a way of keeping it thick and warm, but you don’t overuse the pre-gain, so you have excellent note-clarity/definition! (Sort of like Yngwie or Ritchie Blackmore’s tone, where it’s really NOT that distorted, if you listen closely! It’s almost as if your using old-fashioned “output-tube/power-amp” style overdrive! I’ll bet you played damn loud to get that killer-tone also, right?!? š® š
Anyways, I was trying to figure out the guitar, and then I remembered that it looked like Reb Beach’s old Ibanez from his “Winger days,” right?!? Was Reb an influence, or did you just like the guitar? I always thought that Reb was underrated! I mean Winger got billed as being like “*****-rock” or something, but his playing was always melodic and sometimes incendiary!!! (ie: “Seventeen’s” breakdown/stop-solo!!! WOW!) š® š
Anyways, I really dug your playing and your sound (as usual bro!) Some things NEVER change! š :p
Thanks for sharing that “blast from the past!” Richard! š
