:cool:I am looking for a new amp.I just sold my JCM900,owned it for 12 years loved it ,but I did’nt need a halfstack in the living room anymore.I met a fellow who played in a band that was looking for one so I sold it to him.As I mentioned I had looked at the Stilleto Ace(saw Al Dimeola using the head,It sounded great, the time before when he came to town he was using a JCM2000,sounded great).I am new here not phishing. My guitars are Les Paul standard,40th anniversary Srtat,GuildDV52.Was hoping for some input.
Hi dv52, 🙂
Considering that you owned a Marshall for that long, and that you like Al DiMeola, you must be into rock, and/or instrumental fusion-rock, correct?
If so, and if effects are NOT something you expect to be built-in, (like you’d either add pedals or a multi-effect later) then you must be looking for a sweet tube-combo, or perhaps a modeling-amp-combo. Assuming that you’d rather own a tube-combo, maybe you should try some of Blackstar’s (former Marshall employees! – no kidding!) new combos. They’re great, and they’re very affordable too! Their are also quite a few “mini-heads” out now like the Orange Tiny-Terror and the Vox Nighttrain. You could get a nice 1×12 cab to match-up to one of these “mini-heads” and you’d have what is (in essence) a separable-combo! I’ve also heard good things about the Egnater amps too (like the Rebel-series.). If price is NOT an issue, then it’s hard to go wrong with Mesa/Boogie. (I’ve heard AMAZING things about the Mesa Boogie – Mark V, and I think that comes as a combo or as a head?!? – not sure on that?) They make excellent stuff for all styles IMO! 😉
Best of luck! 😎

Thanks for the imput Bill.I do like Rock and Fusion.I was using Al as a reference point.( I certainly don”t have his talent.)I as well as most like Jeff Beck he is a tonemaster.I know a guy in town that plays a MarkV and it does sound great, another freind has one on order.I was just curious if any of the members actually owned a stilletto ace combo.I do not impulse buy.I happened on the amp while shopping for the Les Paul a few years ago and was impressed with it.thanks.
Hi dv52,
While I have not spent much time with the Ace combo, I have certainly read alot of reviews and articles about it. I will post some in case you haven’t had a chance to read them.

Thanks Frank,I looked at the links they all seemed to be positive.I am looking foward to your arival of the MarkV….Perhaps a road trip to GC for further testing………
dv52,
I honestly think that this is the one you have been looking for, my friend.

I went again to test the Ace combo on saturday. With me was my friend who is an outstanding player. While we were there a guy that used to work in an old well respected store in our town (owner retired, store is now closed),came in and next thing you know while I was playing these two were tweaking knobs and switches, exploring the many tonal options on this amp.Let me just say that I was quite impressed with quality of this mesaboogie.I have never owned a boogie, but I believe this one will do the trick. It has fantastic cleans that can be explored in many different ways. The drive channel was equally impressive..To be honest I am surprised none of the members here own or have sampled one of them. The quest continues, but I believe this one speaks to me.thanks:cool:
Hey men, look up Ciccognani Brutus Live. I have one and it smokes, class A single ended, 2 channel foot switchable, parallel/series fx loop, 28 watts. It has 3 clean channels and 2 rediculous hi gain channels (must pick 1 of each). Check it out on youtube send me a message and I will tell you where to get them, as I feel it is not appropriate to solicite on this site.

Not a Boogie, the Brutus is a different amp , you said you were shopping so I referred that amp because it is relatively new and still at a good price point for the quality.
