LOVE Coldplay. My wife really loves them too. To be honest, I think X & Y has some of the prettiest music I’ve ever heard.
I’m not a real fan but I do love them
they do have some really good tracks..
I found their music very simple and touching..in my opinion I can say that on other bands as well, who writes “better” or if you want more complicate – what sometime mean something to me as a prog fan
(although complicate isn’t always what I look for or it doesn’t always fits)
anyway, it is a very good band, and ultimately – the albums deserve the money you pay for them. =]Go get Viva la Vida! Amazing album. š Still like ROFTHH better though.. š
Yeah, that is def on my to get list although I’m not that keen on the title track tho..
Actually, that is just my initial impression of Coldplay. However, I probably should give them some more listens (especially the deeper album/non-radio cuts) before I can give a more fully informed opinion.
Since I mentioned Radiohead in my Reply Title, everyone do yourselves a favor and
pick-up/check-out their LP’s The Bends and OK Computer. These albums are both OUTSTANDING on all levels, and since this is a “guitarists” forum, I should add that these records display outstanding “guitar-arranging/orchestration.” Many of the songs that are “guitar-oriented” (like most of The Bends LP) display 2 or 3 interwoven electric and acoustic guitars, and the composite result is PURE GENIUS! I highly reccomend Radiohead! Peace.~Bill Meedog~
Hey Bill,
I have OK computer which is a great album. Paranoid android being my fav track. I do enjoy listening to Coldplay more tho’.
Hey Rick Graham,
That’s cool that you have OK Computer, and I respect your opinions about Coldplay.
If you haven’t previously checked out the Radiohead LP just prior to OK Computer (The Bends,) Do yourself a favor and check it out! It is WAY more “guitar-oriented” than OK Computer (although I really like OK Computer a lot too!) I should add that when I say “guitar-oriented,” that’s not to say that it has any element of “shred” type guitar! Clearly, Radiohead’s guitar genius lies in their arranging/orchestration and their serving of “the song,” as opposed to any technical execution! Their parts are ALWAYS very complimentary, and maybe that’s a quality that some in the “shred-community” can learn from. Sometimes a bit of restraint really “sets up” those wilder moments ( I believe the musical term here is “pacing,” correct?) In other words, if someone is SCREAMING all the time, eventually their voice becomes very quiet!Rick, let me make clear that I’ve found YOUR guitar style to be a very musical and appropriate blend of melody, rhythm, taste, AND impressive chops!
Peace!

Hi. I’ve come to appreciate Coldplay more, especially when I heard their song “Green Eyes”, played on the radio in my car a while ago. That is a BRILLIANT tune! (Wish I wrote it, oh well… š
Interesting to see some folks doing their own renditions of it on You Tube.
