Hey guys! This Friday (March 21) i had my audition at Berklee! It was awesome! i did really good, except for the sight reading and the chords hehe 😀 but yeah i did good imo. The place is so amazing, loots of cool people from everywhere with all kinds of instruments and different approaches and thoughts about music, its an amazing place! The faculty is really nice and make you feel comfortable about the place!
Just wanted to share this with you guys, 🙂
Rock on ! 😀

That’s awesome!
When do you find out if they want you to be part of it or not? Remember to tell us if you get in! 🙂
the website said that the results were handed in in September 2008 so i gotta wait alot of time. But im not really sure, they might notify me prior to that, either way, ill let you guys know! 🙂
You look into GIT??
Heard great things about it :).
Awesome!
Hopefully everything goes well once you get to go.
The guitar instructor here at school went to Berklee and graduate Magna Cum Laude. Made it thru the 4 year program in just 2 years cause he’s awesome like that. 😉
I was thinking of going there for my bachelors degree after I get my AS here, but he advised me to go somewhere else, saying there are MUCH better music schools out there, and ones that don’t cost an arm and a leg to go to.
So tell me, what’s the area like? How are the people? Was it intimidating at all being there? How was the audition process? Did you get to talk to any of the faculty? (sorry for all the questions. haha)
I think the only GREAT thing about berklee is constantly being surrounded by musicians..
Bad thing is.. your surrounded by musicians, lots of compitions for band spots and stuff.
But then again it’s boston, bunches of places for gigs.. and their local guitar center is AMAZING!
I like it more than the one down in Connecticut anyways.
But really.. no offence intented.. You really need to start sight reading and the chord stuff you mentioned. Because if you don’t It might be like setting a person who cant swim into a swimming pool. Might be a bit harder to catch on right away and you might not learn as much as was taught becasue you were to busy playing the catch up game.
But I’m sure you’ve realised this and started anyways.

Thanks. The area is really cool, i didnt managed to take a tour around the college, but the area is in a very good place, not many traffic, and alot of stores nearby.
The people are really nice, people of everywhere with all kinds of instruments. The people that were helping the auditioners were really nice too, i met 3 Sax players and we talked for a while, they make you feel really comofortable with the place and were really nice, we talked about music and how cool is studying there.
I wasnt that scared or intimidated, since i had decided that i was going to do what i could and thats what i did ( that is what the college is interested in too, what you CAN do, not what you CANNOT, because thats what you will be able to do once you get in there).
The audition process was really quick. First i was asked to play the prepared piece i had for them, and i did, along with a backing track that i had with me. Later they asked me to improvise over another backing track that i had with me. After that, came the sight reading, i got a couple of notes but didnt do well. Next they asked me to play some chords (my chord vocabulary is really low) and i failed to do that. After that came the ear training call-response exersises. The teacher played some phrases in his guitar and i had to sing that phrase up to pitch.
After that, he would play other phrases and i had to play them again without looking, but only by ear. Later came the rythmic exersises, the teacher played different kinds of rythmic stuff using only one note, and i had to repeat the same thing as he did exactly the way it was.
And that was it! 😀
I didnt get to talk with any of the faculty i think, i might have, i talked with many people but im not sure which were students and which were of the faculty (because there were some students helping with the auditions), altough im sure that the 2 people that evaluated must have been part of the faculty.

yeah thats the Bad thing, but like you said, Boston has alot of places to gig and that involves music.
And yeah, i have started working on my flaws, i will definately improve them. 🙂
