I saw this band mentioned on a few instructor profiles so I thought it’d be good as a start for my first topic.
Absolutely love them – I got Colours a while back and I just love the diversity of the whole album – how it comes round to were it starts etc, my favourite song is Ants of the Sky without a doubt – the country bit at the end is just so brilliantly done. My only complaint was that it could have been mixed a bit better – the vocals specifically, and the production in general, feel slightly thin for me but thats all I can really say is bad about it. The guitar playing is fantastic.
Opinions?

i dont know this band. ill check them out
This band is awesome. You should also check out the band Three.
Love Colors. Heard of them from a friend, he sent me Selkies, was like “OMFG” then ‘acquired’ the discography.
Colors though, is superb. Best bits are, intro of Prequel, Viridian->White Walls transfer, when it kicks in in Foam Born A. I did a recording of the intro to Prequel, http://media.putfile.com/Prequel-To-The-Sequel-intro-cover . Stupid Audition messing with the timings.
The only complaint I have is that sometimes I just wish they’d use more recurring themes, rather than going off on massive tangents and then occcasionally returning back, because sometimes it just seems like 30 small songs in succession.
I mean, the clean bit in AOTS at about 7:30 is excellent, I love it, and I find myself just repeating that part over. I know it’s part of their style to just go mad, and usually I agree with it, just sometimes it’s annoying.
LOVE the Colors album. It’s definitely an album that’s grown on me more and more as I’ve listened.
I’ll echo what you said Alex about the lack of recurring themes. In some parts I find myself wishing the parts would either continue or recur later on. Other than that, not much else to complain about. Great album. Great band!
I think that since we are talking about all these different bands we should have a recommendations sub-forum or something. Nocturnal…what do you think š (For those of you that don’t know, he is like an encyclopedia of bands as Pavel has mentioned before)
I saw BTBAM open for DragonForce and Lacuna Coil, but I must admit I was more intent on the bar and the lady manning it so didn’t pay much attention (that goes double for Lacuna Coil, I was oblivious). I really like Colors, my personal favorite track is Sun of Nothing, Ants of the Sky is great too though. I’ve got tickets to see BTBAM and Three live at the Prog Nation tour.

I might get tickets for a show to see them too.
Saw BTBAM at Prog Nation with 3, Opeth, and Dream Theater. Wasn’s a big Dream Theater fan until I saw them live, and WOW!! 3 was amazing and I had never heard of them before and they are great. Plus Opeth is just amazing to see and such talented musicians. On a different note, Colors for BTBAM is amazing but not as good as their self titled, The Silent Circus, and definatly not Alaska. If you want some amazing music(more than what Colors is) check out Alaska!!!
I saw them live at the prog nation tour as well. I hadn’t heard thier stuff before hand, and man was I happy to see them live.
Man, I wish I was able to catch that tour. Seems like all the bands put on excellent shows. Would love to see BTBAM live at some point.
