Hi there,
I made a little cover mp3 of that great song!Sorry for the poor sound of my very old strings…I didn t change it yet,it s still the original strings which were on the guitar when I bought it š
The improv section is very hard but very nice to practice. Thanks a lot Tom.
Hope you ll enjoy it:

That was VERY nice. I wish I could improv like that. I’m more of a compositional player. I really enjoyed that though. Would have been better if you had made a video…..:D:cool:

Yep,you re right but I need to practice it a little bit to make the video cause it s 4.20 min song and right now I can t play it perfectly,I always make a little mystake and I hate that!:D
Cool! Awesome man! Great job working your way through those tricky changes. I certainly did enjoy it – it’s always interesting to hear someone else’s take on one of your tunes.
I know exactly what you mean about making mistakes in videos – it’s seriously frustrating when you almost have a perfect take and then ruin it with a rogue wrong note or phrase! š
Post more!!All the best and thanks for posting this.

Thanks Tom! š
Ahah!Yeah, about the video ,it s exactly what you said!
Yep,The changes are really cool and it s new to me,when you have to change a scale just during a chord.I really enjoy the BT ,can t wait for your album(it s not in sale yet,isn t it??? )!!
But you see,I think I got 2 problems in my playing that I want to work hard:
1)the technique:it closes a lot of door to me,I had to change a lot of licks in my solos cause I can t play them,so could you tell me how to work technique everyday…how many bpm?5 by 5?10 by 10?How did you work?Playing solos and improvisations or studying licks with the metronome?
2)the timing:when I m watching you playing,I m really impressed by your timing.It s really perfect.Mine is not wrong,but sometimes it s not perfect,a little bit out.
Could you make a video talking about the vibrato and the tone you have?I really like your vibrato man, very relaxing.
Thanks again for the motivating comments Tom š
Hey JeanDo, š
Great job man! This NOT an easy tune, especially the improv changes. Well done! š

This seems to be a lifelong quest……I’m always trying to get my technique to the point where you can play whatever you need to. Don’t know that we ever reach that point……but we sure do try.:D:cool:

Hey Mosjem, š
Amen to that bro. Amen to that!!! š š

Hey JeanDo,
That was well played! I’m learning this song too, although I’m not improvising but I’m transcribing Tom’s solo section note for note . I’ve got around 24 bars down! But still a few months before I can play it well enough. š
You should have made a video! It really helps in that it forces you to “perform”. š
Great playing!

Thanks Rohan! Can t wait to see your video! You re right,I should have make a video but I ll do that soon. You know, for me the hardest parts are the intro lick and the final riff,to get it right everytime,I cutted 2 times š

RohanHey Rohan, š
That’s cool man, I’ll bet you’ll learn a lot from Tom’s “genius!” š Anyways, you ought to consider doing two versions of Tom’s song: One note-for-note and the other with an improvised solo! Then you’ll really be challenging yourself! š BTW, I agree about the pressure to perform on video vs. audio-only, but personally, I just can’t afford a video-camera yet. Eventually, I do want to start doing that though. That’ll be fun (and nerve-racking!”) “That which we fear, makes us stronger.” Right?!? š® š

Hey Bill,
Fear. I love that word! Allow me two digressions! š
A book I read around 6 years back. Forgot the name, but it was about hallucinatory drugs. š Our enemies in life are – 1) Fear 2) Clarity 3) Power 4) Old age.
I’m still stuck at (1) š®A friend of mine taught me the 4Ps of guitar playing. Plan, practice, perform, persevere (not necessarily in that order). I think performance is an important and often overlooked stage. The pressure of performing will make you practice!
Ah ok, back to TQ. Tom’s playing on Chasing the Beat is nothing but pure evil. Believe me, there was nothing physically challenging to learning his licks, but the mental strength required to tie it all in is very challenging!

Hi Rohan,
I agree with everything that you said. Period! š
BTW, I’m stuck on enemies #2 and #4 on your list! The clarity of getting old sucks! š®
Digression: I saw Slumdog Millionaire a couple of weeks back. It was an excellent movie. I still can’t get over how gorgeous the actress is who played the adult-Latika character (Freida Pinto! – HOT, HOT, HOT!!!) :p š® š
