I can’t decide if he is incredibly brave, or very, very thrill seeking, or very, very stupid (because I see absolutely no reason to do this kinda thing). But yeah, it is amazing.

This experiment was a vital part of the preparation for the space program. I certainly don’t think that stupidity or thrill seeking was part of the equation (although I’m sure he enjoyed the experience). Here is a video of Mr Kittinger talking about it and what the main objectives of the experiment were.

I can’t believe that he knew that there was a problem with his hand due to failure of the glove in his pressure suit and he chose not to tell anybody despite serious pain because they would have aborted the experiment.
