Hey guys, i was watching this video of this dude playing Paganini’s 24th Caprice and he left me amazed and shocked!! I had to give it a try! So heres a small clip of me playing some seconds of the piece.
Oh, but first, the video who inspired me to do it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NryhTrYPgZs
And here’s the clip of me playing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pB6XwVvQfM
You will notice at the end, that the last sweeps are slower than the actual tempo, and thats because i cant do those sweeps up to tempo at the momment, but im practicing!
Thanks for watching and please comment!.
Also note, i recorded this using a webcam and the sound seems to go off and on at some parts. Sorry about that, i still dont know why it happens

FretDancer69,
Well done! I’ll bet this song will make you a better player when you can play the whole thing, because songs like these that were never originally intended for guitar are hard-as-hell if you ask me! (lol!) There are a lot of awkward interval-leaps, unpredictable melodies and harmony, and of course the requisite “Sweep-arpeggios!” Hang in there though, and you’ll get it! š
BTW, I’m a bit jealous of your “guitar-fingers!” (That’s what I call guitarists who have the long, slender fingers! Although no guarantee of anything, I think that is the best build to have for “guitar-hands!”) (lol!)
Best-of-luck! š

Hey FretDancer! Very good playing on this very difficult piece.
I’ve never attempted these but I have the notation in my collection and I know how tough this and the other caprices are. I wouldn’t worry too much about getting it up to speed right now – that shouldn’t be your immediate goal. Check this version out and listen to his dynamics, timing and vibrato – very expressive. It’s fast I know but violin players will always be able to play faster than guitarists. If you work on these elements your performance will be great regardless of the speed.

Paul Gilbert is very good at playing pieces such as this and retaining many of the musical elements that many other guitarists forget about.
Good luck!
Tom
Great job FretDancer! That’s a very tough piece. Keep practicing bro.
Tom, the Yehudi Menuhin clip was simply beautiful. Thanks a lot for sharing that.

Thanks for watching man! And yeah, those arpeggios are a killer š but i love sweep arpeggios š
And about my fingers, thanks i guess. Personally i dont like them, they are very tense sometimes, like they you can hear them crack a little when i do a grab motion, and they look too skinny š hehe

Thanks for sharing that clip Tom, and yeah, now that i think of it, there’s hardly parts in which you can do free vibrato in this piece. Thanks for the advice, ill think ill record this piece again more slowly to make room for smooth vibrato š
