    Damn!

This lesson material is awesome. Sweep picking applied to speed picking, what a great combination! I really gotta check this guy out!

    Hey Guys,

I just got a great idea! How about an “In the style of” Frank Gambale tutorial presented by our resident “economy-picking-fusion-extraordinare”—> Tom Quayle!

Well, how about it? Good idea, or what?!?

Well, Tom Q…..up for it??? (lol!)

    Guys,

BTW, I’m dead-serious about this! I didn’t want anyone to think that I thought Tom Quayle was not equal to the task, because he DAMN SURE WELL IS!!!

I think it would be GREAT!

    Peace.

I’ve seen the monster licks video, and I can play the entire lick. Meaning, that I have it memorized and at a much much slower pace ๐Ÿ˜€

I’ve been listening to Frank’s music for the past one year and I absolutely love his music and style but sadly I fail to understand his notion of utlilizing sweeping everytime! So yes, I practice his monster lick using strict alternate picking.

After learning the monster lick, my real understanding was how he connected arpeggio ideas over a single position. i.e. ascending and descending over two different arpeggios while staying in one position.

Sorry if this post is off topic ๐Ÿ™‚

Actually it is very on topic ๐Ÿ˜‰

Iยดm trying to learn the technique he uses because it seems quite interesting, and it really decreases the amount of montion necessary for speed picking. And it sound very fluid, somewhat between legato and straight picking.

But it is hard to control your sweep picking in that way. Also those arpeggio shapes are pretty unusual (at least for me, I havenยดt seen it used in many different ways, usually it is only triad arpeggios with 1 note per string and 2 on the lowest (be it 4th, 5th or 6th) and 4 on the highest). And damn it, he plays it so fast…

    Hi guys,

I bought a package containing three of Franks’ DVDs. They are: Monster Licks and Speedpicking, Modes-No more Mystery, and Chopbuilder-The Ultimate Guitar Workout.

The Chopbuilder DVD is awesome. Actually, they all are, but I’m working with the Chopbuilder DVD at the moment. Besides being a ridiculous stamina builder, Frank demonstrates all the modes and alot of their variations, as well as sweep picking arpeggios and alternate picking exercises.

I am noticing an improvement in my picking technique and stamina as a result. It works for sure. The bonus is that I have memorized all the modes at this point and play them often. Frank is a fusion monster as many of you probably know. Check out these DVDs.

I had the first two, Modes and Monster etc and I watched them all the time back when I first got into technical playing. I recorded the audio to a cassette tape and played it on my walkman when I went out on my own, sad I know lol. ๐Ÿ˜€ I also did that with the ending to the film crossroads before I was actually a guitar player which is quite bizarre I guess.

I think Crossroads showcased some of Vais’ coolest playing. It sure isn’t bizarre, Rick. I played that DVD over and over until I nailed alot of the blues boogie Steve was doing, let alone the classical extravaganza at the end…”oh, Jack Butlers’ going to like you…!”

it’s a gr8 book .. but unless ur a disciplined player who can handle both alternative & economy picking .. i really won’t recommend this ..
i remember reading this one few yrs back .. and completely messed up my playing ..
i think it’s better to stick to alternative picking and let economy pickin naturally come if need be
