I never went to G.I.T., but the place is pretty legendary in terms of alumni and reputation! š I am a lot more familiar with Berklee College of Music (since I live about 20 miles Northeast of it in the suburbs of Boston Massachusetts – U.S.A.!) š My understanding is that M.I.T. (The Musician’s Institute of Technology – under which G.I.T. resides as the Guitarists’ Institute of Technology – is the place to go if you just want to become a great player and get a streamlined education about the (music) business, and what you’ll need to know to establish a career in Music. Whereas Berklee (near me) is more of a full-blown accredited Jazz-Based College (although they’re trying to shed that label lately even in some of their advertising and marketing literature!) Again I’m not so familiar with G.I.T. (other than knowing that Paul Gilbert completely re-vamped his right-hand picking technique while he was there…oh yeah, he also learned what a min7b5 chord was too!!! (LOL! – I LOVE PAUL GILBERT! This is an inside joke to anyone who intimately knows his instructional video/dvd for “Get Out Of My Yard.” (GOOMY!) – see the “Curse of The Castle Dragon” segment!) Anyways, I think Frank Gambale has taught there, and if you look into it, you’ll find that there are LOTS of famous alumni! š Berklee has it’s share of famous alumni, but I think of it as a “Jazz-School” first, that happens to offer a LOT of different types of cirriculum and degrees (like Recording Technology/Sound Engineering, Instrument Performance, Music Business, Education (Teaching), Composition, Arranging, Sound Synthesis, etc. etc.!) š
I hope this helps a bit, but I’m sure you can find out a LOT more on the internet with google and related websites and stuff! š
