And this will be my first ever live Dream Theater experience. Seeing them in oakland on the progressive nation tour with opeth, between the buried and me, and 3.
I’m not the hugest DH fan out there, but I really love petrucci and list him among my personal top 5 players. I’m looking forward to “opeth” and “between the buried and me” as well. Though I’m not extremely familiar with either of these bands stuff what I’ve heard in the past I’ve liked.
I’ll try to get some pics.

Woops, just realized my typo in the thread title….. Good job.
Hehe I’m guessing you meant “DT”? š I’ll edit the title for ya.
DEFINITELY post pictures if you can. And have a great time! I’ve seen DT twice, and they put on an excellent show. I’d like to see BTBAM someday as well. Let us know how it goes!
DT are amazing live. I’m sure you’ll have/ will have had a blast!
amazing man! DT is awesome. Please bring pictures for us!!!
I saw DT last summer – was pretty cool show. Sound tech messed up the overall loudness of PA so it was a bit tooo loud but it was cool to watch Myung shredding that bass. Funny, ha? I watched Myung all the show instead of Petrucci š š
Post pictures m8! š
saw dream theater live once, last year, Croatia, Zagreb
pretty nice show, about 2 hours of playing
only part that I didn’t like was the 5 or 6 songs from their latest album, rest was perfectthey didn’t allow the audience to come in with cameras but I managed to sneak in with it š

whats PA? And yeah, Myung is amazing on the bass!!
PA is a sound system for concerts used to “distribute” the sound from all the equipment on stage. All the instruments on stage are connected to amps or are mic-ed so they can later be forwarded to master-board/mixer and the mixer output goes to PA – big speakers.
Awesome dude.
I will tell you, you will NOT be disappointed.
I first saw Dream Theater last august on my 20th birthday. Greatest single day of my life (so far)Everything was great. I managed to meet Mike Portnoy earlier in the day at a meet and greet at CASICO Interstate Music, and got some stuff autographed (one being my right arm!) and got a pic with him. I then went to the show and got to meet the band and everything. Got a buncha pics of that, as well as the opportunity to mingle with the band and talk to each member. I then got to see them front row later on that night with a bunch of my friends who had come along.
Here are some pics I have from that day…
I am hopefully going to see them again later this month on the Progressive Nation tour in Chicago.
Wow – nice pics man! That looks like a lot of fun there hehehehe
Well the concert was great. I knew DT was great live, but I didn’t expect them to be THAT good. They’ve ruined me honestly. I don’t think I can go back to listening to CDs anymore, I liked them live that much better.
Not that I’ve ever disliked them, but their live sound was much more brutal and intense as it’s intended, and that never seems to come though on a CD.
I got a couple of pictures, but they were coming out terribly. I was really far away, so in order to get a decent picture the exposure time was insane, and they just weren’t coming out well. I’m at work now, but I’ll see if I can get my pics loaded tonight once I get home.
Oh, and between the buried and me was insane. I’d liked what I’d heard of them, and now I’m gonna have to go buy some CD’s. Opeth was opeth. Amazing, but kinda exactly what I expected. They came on after BTBAM and it felt like they were playing at a walking pace in comparison. Oh, and their keyboardist wasn’t adding music for the most part, but rather very harsh white noise that was painful. It could have been the sound engineers fault, but it seemed like his patches were just too harsh.
Overall a great show.
Thanks for the review man. Sounds like it was a killer show! I know what you mean about that “DT live energy”. They are just incredible live.
Good to hear that BTBAM was great too. I’d highly recommend their music, maybe check out their most recent release “Colors”.

oh man, i would love to see DT someday… but i know thats far from today… š
I saw DT w/Opeth, BTBAM ,and 3 last night, and it was absolutely AMAZING. 3 SERIOUSLY impressed me. They have awesome stage presence, and they’re music just plain owns. I was quite disappointed with BTBAM..I think they were having an off night. Kinda looked like they just wanted to get it over with. I’ve heard some good stuff by them, but they weren’t very good last night. Opeth just rocked the house. Mikael Akerfeldt is amazingly hilarious, and a freaking killer vocalist. His growl is to DIE for. As for DT..they blew my mind. Seeing my idol right in front of me was such an amazing experience. He was absolutely on his game last night, and he nailed EVERY single solo perfectly. James sounded the best he’s ever sounded in YEARS. The whole band was just amazing. I was going CRAZY..I was singing Johns solos (even the fast ones..imagine how that would sound like LOL) and singing all the lyrics at the top of my lungs. After the show Petrucci actually looked at me, smiled and gave me thumbs up, which was the highlight of my entire life, LOL. You simply HAVE to see them live.
Awesome Michael!!
And hey, if you ever do recordings of yourself singing Petrucci’s solos, be sure to post them in the forum. haha
