Hey guys,
I came across this site recently, and just joined the site today, so I wanted to introduce myself. I was drawn to this site by the top notch instructors, and I hope that I can gain from their knowledge and improve my playing.
A little about me. I’m a working man living in Saudi Arabia, and I’ve been playing guitar on an off (mostly off) for about 17 years now. I’m entirely self-taught since finding a guitar teacher is not easy in this country – not many people play guitar. I started off with a 12-string acoustic that was pared down to 6 strings. Then I moved on to a cheap Stratocaster copy by Epiphone (the S-310). I recently picked up a 24-fret Rasmus M102 (in candy apple red!), and wanted to improve my playing to take advantage of the guitar, and to get rid of all the bad habits I’ve picked up along the way. I’m also hoping to be able to start writing and recording my own music. My musical tastes run the gamut from (among others) Rock to Jazz to Blues to Fusion, and some of my favorite guitar players (there are many) include Eric Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Ty Tabor, Joe Bonamassa, Steve Vai, and Al Di Meola.
I hope I haven’t rambled on too long, but I just wanted to say that so far this looks like a great site and a great community.
Cheers, and happy picking!

Welcome!
It’s always interesting to speak with musicians from places far, far away. (I love to trade places for a week, to get away from these snow storms in Canada!!!)
Based on your interest in players, I think you have chosen the right place to learn! I’m actually thinking about going to a Joe Bonamassa concert in a couple weeks.
How do you like the Rasmus?! If you’ve watched any of my videos before, I’m sure you’re aware that I’m a huge Suhr fanatic. Also should mention that Richard has recently picked up a Modern! I’ve been really curious about the Rasmus, but haven’t had a chance to try one yet.
Steve
Hey samgoody! Welcome to IG man.
How long have you lived in Saudi Arabia?
And congrats on the new axe. Candy Apple finish sounds awesome, any pics?
You’ve got some great influences there too. So in regards to writing/recording, have you delved into writing already or are you just planning on starting soon? Best of luck with that man. Compose as much as you possibly can.
Welcome to the site!
Hey man! Nice to have you on board. We’re all quite versed in audio/video production, so if you have any questions regarding that, or anything else (including lesson topic requests) don’t hesitate to ask!
Chris
Thanks Steve. Hmm, I agree that snow storms are something to get away from, but one thing I think is an advantage in your part of the world is being able to see the four seasons as they come and go. Here it’s basically only two seasons, with the weather turning reasonably cool December through Jan/Feb. Otherwise it’s hot, somewhat dusty, and in my case humid as I live on the Red Sea.
I’m really liking the Rasmus, it seems to play very nicely, and I haven’t had to change it from the factory setup yet. It’s much easier to play than my old Epiphone, and the tuning seems very stable. It’s quite light, the shape is really comfortable, and it’s a very good looking guitar. Right now I’m playing through a Zoom G2.1u directly into my computer, so it’s not the best of rigs, but I really really like the sound of the guitar. I’m usually a sucker for the sounds of a Strat, but I’m liking the added versatility that the humbuckers provide. I can’t compare it to a Suhr as I’ve never played one before, but the Rasmus is a really nice guitar in every respect.
Thanks Shawn. I think maybe I’ve lived in Saudi Arabia too long!
I’ll try and post some pics of my guitar as soon as I can. I remember I’d set up an account on photobucket, but now I don’t remember the user name or password! Or maybe I should put the pics as attachments to my post?
As for composing, this is something I’ve never done before. Part of what’s holding me back is my guitar playing (technique + theory need lots of work), and partly because of my lack of knowledge on the recording/mixing side of things. I’ll take your advice, though, and try to compose as much as I can.
Thanks Chris. I’m here to learn, so I’ll be sure to ask all the questions that come to my mind.
Welcome onboard man!
I really need to try a Rasmus as well, definitely want to see how they stack up against the real deal =)Thanks Richard. If you haven’t seen them already, I’ve posted pics of my Rasmus in this other thread: https://www.infiniteguitar.com/forum/showthread.php?1951-Rasmus-Modern-(M102)-in-Candy-Apple-Red
I checked out the pictures of your Suhr Custom Modern, and I have to say it looks fantastic. I’d love to try out the “real deal” myself, but will have to wait until such a time that I can afford one (sigh). I’d be interested to know how the compound 10″-14″ radius fretboard would feel or what effect it would have compared my flat 16″ fretboard.
