Hey everyone! I just caved and got my premium membership and i’m very excited to start intensifying my practice regiment and to learn new techniques and musical ideas. My name is Ryan Minor and i’m from Pennsylvania in the US and I have been playing guitar for about 8 years. I’m looking forward to getting to you know everyone and I can’t wait to learn more!
Thanks!
Ryan
PS. Here is a link to my myspace account which contains tracks from my album “Truth & Treason”. Its an instrumental/orchestral style album and the quality isn’t great, but it turned out surprisingly well considering I did everything in my basement.

Welcome to IG Ryan! You’ve got some cool music on your myspace page there. Keep up the great work, and I’ll see you around the site!
Sean
Hey! Thanks for the reply Sean! I’m working through the intermediate lesson plan right now and i’m really enjoying the rhythmic displacement lessons so far. The song at the end is very Meshuggah!
I thought that since I have a few minutes on my hands I should give a little more info about me. As I said, i’ve been playing for about 8 years and after my second year, I started practicing more and taking the guitar more seriously. I am mostly self-taught but have had about 3 months of lessons. I learned modes from the teacher but besides that, these lessons weren’t what I needed to progress.
I stumbled across this website after seeing Rick Graham on youtube and I thought to myself, “man that guy has some sweet legato”. I only joined yesterday but I have already spent about 10 hours going through the lessons and practicing! I’m hooked!!!
My favorite guitarists at the moment are
Andy Timmons
Guthrie Govan
Greg HoweI am trying to get into the fusion style of guitar playing.
My favorite bands are
Circus Maximus
Symphony X
Pain of Salvation
Dream TheaterPretty standard haha but of course there are many other bands that have influenced me and I’m always looking for new bands to add to my favorites list haha.
Anyway, thanks again for this great opportunity and I look forward to meeting and learning from all of you
Ryan

Hi Ryan, š
I think you’ll really like this site! I’ve been a premium Member for over a year now, and I LOVE IT! š
BTW, Kudos to you for a job well done finishing your album! š That’s great man. (BTW, I loved that guitar break at [4:02] of “Weathered Man,” That was sweet (and clean!) I applaud anyone who sees their work through and doesn’t give up. š I think that’s a great quality for any creative/composing musician/guitarist! BTW, did you do any of the other instruments too? Just curious. Well done! š Keep finishing projects, and you’ll learn a lot! š

Hey Bill, thanks for giving it a listen! I appreciate the kind words! It was a very time consuming hobby from around september 2008 when I started writing and recording until February 2009 when I finished everything. It’s obviously not professional in anyway considering I figured out how to mix and use the program as I went along. You can tell the order in which the songs were recorded by the song quality haha.
But, in regards to the other instruments, I played all of the guitar and bass tracks personally, and played some of the keyboard parts (the outro of Shrouded included). All of the orchestration and the more difficult piano parts were programmed via midi and then I used a great program called Garritan Personal Orchestra for the emulation. I also programmed the drums into the tracks as well. I was at school at the time that the album was recorded and i’m an admitted control freak, so it would just be easier for me to “play” the drums instead of worry about all of the variables involved in recording live drums with a drummer.
I’m really excited about this site and I feel like I have already progressed in leaps and bounds over my previous playing. I am obsessed with Tom Quayle’s fusion tutorials!!! I have been working on the modern legato approach and I am very interested in playing outside as well. The hybrid picking is a great challenge to me, its just what I wanted!!
I am also using the sequencing and tapping tutorials daily as a technique exercise along with others. THANKS AGAIN FOR THIS WEBSITE!!! š
Hi Ryan!
Great to have you here at IG. I’m really glad you’re enjoying the lessons here.
I checked out your myspace tunes – really great stuff! I’m totally in awe of your patience for programming all of that midi material. I did an entire orchestral arrangement for a tune written by my brother a few years ago and nearly went crazy with all the programming!
Good luck with the tutorials mate and let us know if you have any problems or requests! We’re here to help!
All the best,
Tom
