Hello, i want to learn improvisation but i dont know where to start exactly. Can anyone give me some advice or links to what i should watch in order? this is one of my main goals and reasons for joining IG other then the fact of wanting to improve.

Just poste anything here on whatever will help, scales i should learn, and how i should excersise them so that i dont have to only recall them when i play it in order. Ive been playing for so long and have really nothing to show for it so im putting my foot down and stepping up so that i can be a better guitarist, because after i graduate im going to be a music major. But as for now please give me any links, advice, or comments on what i can do to be able to improvise.

Hey man, there are two Tom Quayle ones that will probably help a lot. Try the ‘Visualising the fretboard’ ones which teach you some really good modal fingerings and the ‘Playing Over Changes Pt 1’, which should really help your scale knowledge whilst playing in a musical setting over a backing track! Hope this helps, Elliot šŸ™‚

Hey Opeth, I’m no amazing improviser but one thing that has really helped me is to take a lick or phrase that you already know and play it. After the last note, try to continue the lick in the same style (or not, if that sounds better to you). But basically this teaches you to play off of ideas and continue them on the fly. Try it out
