as I finally found out what did stop me from improving in Alternate Picking, I am looking for some “intermediate” songs/solos that I can practice Alternate Picking with. Just as a reference point, the 16th notes riff of Technical Difficulties (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ES1RypBww_g) is just a bit over my skill level (read: takes too long to notice progress ;))
I’m looking for something that needs a bit of practice but doesn’t take too long, so that there is some kind of success in order to keep motiviation up. So some recommendations would be much appreciated. Any kind of genre, really doesn’t matter at all.
Cheers,
Max.
/edit: How can I make the youtube video a link only? tags dont work :<
Try learning some Charlie Parker tunes on the guitar, at least the heads. They are quiiiiite challenging, but are completely doable. If you don’t swing the eighth notes and instead treat them as 16th notes, try getting the heads up to like 150 bpm or 160 even. HARD stuff.
Aaaand, if you study them, you’ll get some great jazz 2 5 1 licks that you can take away from them and twist them to your liking. š
Examples: Donna Lee, Confirmation, Anthropology, Ornithology, Segment. Etc.
