Latency problem…

    I’ll be quick about this.
Whenever I try to record over something, such as a click track, my computer still has bad latency problems. I’ve tried to fix it before but somehow it just won’t go away. I was wondering if anyone else had any problem with this and how you fixed it because this is really starting to irritate me. To be honest, i’ve had this problem ever since I got my new computer from Milwaukee PC and I’m pretty illiterate when it comes to things like this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yea I had the same problem since formatting and installing the new Audition. The new audition and Cubase/ Protools aswell probbably have new audio caching drivers or something. Anyway, I dont know too much about the nitty gritty of it all but solved my problem by downloading an ASIO driver.

ASIO4ALL_2_8_Beta_2_English is the file with the drivers.

Google it and you will get a dozen or more hits.

In the case of Adobe Audition.
Install the file, restart the program or PC if required (make sure its closed when you install actually). Open Audition, go into your audio hardware options (edit/audio hardware ect..) and select the ASIO driver in the ‘ audio driver ‘ tab.

That should remedy alot of your latency. If it persists, look at your preferences then the SMPTE/MTC tab. Check your ‘Lag Time’ that should be set around 10 for optimal performance. If changing (lowering) this doesn’t help.

Go back to where you selected the ASIO driver. Make sure ‘release ASIO driver in background ‘ is checked. Click ‘ control panel ‘ button. then increase the Buffer size. This can have both negative and positive effects on different aspects of your recording. Give it a whirl though.

If all of the above fail. Clearly your sound card is outdated šŸ™
Mine is an on board card though, and since thats as crap as they come now days you should be ok.

    I’ll try that out Mike.

If it helps at all, my sound card is an Audigy Sound Blaster SE that I had them install on my computer and for a recording program, all I’m using is Audacity until I get my M-Audio interface. I doubt my sound card is out of date though.

If I download that ASIO driver, will it screw up anything that I might already have on my hard drive? I only ask cause right now I can’t afford to replace anything that might get screwed up.

The Audigy should probbably have support for these drivers, they might even be on your install CD for the card.

I dont think it will have any negative affect on your hardware or software, it will either help or it wont. To be safe maybe you could find a forum or contact the manufacturer and ask. Its a common issue with many cards and usually there’s a simple solution. Be it drivers on your hardware. Or changing a setting in the recoring software.
