I just got back from seeing Megadeth on their American leg of Gigantour and all I can say is wow. These guys are better than ever and I can’t reason through why Metallica is a more popular band. Chris Broderick, their new lead guitarist is phenomenal. He can play the rhythms note for note and anything anybody ever thought about doing, be it Friedman or Drover or anything in between, Broderick can play flawlesly and has incredible stage presence and strong backing vocals. He plays a 7 string Ibanez (I think it’s a K7APEX but I could be wrong). Songs I can recall they played: Wake Up Dead, Sleepwalker, Washington is Next, Burnt Ice, Tornado of Souls, Trust, Symphony of Destruction, A Tout Le Monde, Take No Prisoners, Gears of War, Holy Wars (Mechanix medley), Peace Sells, In My Darkest Hour, Hangar 18,.. There are a couple more that I can’t think of off the top of my head probably. The sound is incredible. The bass penetrates (both Kick and stringed bass) very well. The lyrics started out low and fell into the mix, but they turned them up halfway in and it was like listening to a CD.
As for the rest of the groups, I missed Job for a Cowboy and High on Fire and part of Bodom (which I was sad about) because we gambled and lost that Bodom would be in the no. 2 slot. What I did hear of Bodom was fantastic. They ended with Downfall. Talking with other folks they didn’t play too much off of Blooddrunk, which is probably a good thing I guess.
T shirts were 40% so the damage broke down as follows
Ticket: $51 (with BS ticketmaster fees)
Shirt: $40 (weak)
Beers: $5 apiece for draft Coors Light, I ended up with 8 before night was over.
Grand total: $131
Worth it: Absolutely, Chris Broderick is lick for lick as talented as Friedman if not moreso. Check out his YouTube videos if you’ve not already.
