Sorry if you guys have already seen this, but thought I’d post it here. Metallica’s video for the “The day that never comes” from their latest album.

    Beautiful video. Awesome song.

I had a feeling, that this was some high school starting band and an estabilished band.

When I first heard “My Apocalypse” when the song was just released, that’s what I was thinking too. Kind of sounded like a song any average metal band could write. I guess a lot of the “heavy riffs” seem too cliche for me on the album, and that they’re trying too hard to be heavy. Just my opinion though.

I will say, that even though this album doesn’t do much for me, it’s definitely an improvement from their previous effort.

Listened to the album streamed on their site. To be honest, it doesn’t do much for me.

I actually really enjoyed a couple songs and parts here and there. But the majority of the stuff sounded cliche to my ears. And apologies to any Kirk Hammett fans, but I couldn’t stand his lead playing on this album. That guy needs to branch out a bit and try to actually play a couple melodies in his solos!

I’ll always love Metallica, but I definitely miss the good ol’ days with them and their older stuff.

    Hey Sean,

Wow, I thought you were a diehard “Metallica-Fan” through & through, but now I see that you’ve managed to retain your objectivity and TELL THE TRUTH!!! I could not agree more about Kirk Hammett! I think he:

    1. Lacks Melody
    2. Has Crappy-Tone
    3. Vibrato? Aaarrgh! Don’t get me started!!!

Kirk has accomplished & seen things I’ll never see and seems like a nice guy, but I swear he is regressing to unacceptable levels of mediocrity!

    JMHO!

True dat. Ya know, despite the fact that Kirk was the one who made me pick up the guitar in the first place… I find it hard to believe that he took lessons from Satch from some of the stuff that he played. They both say he did, but it doesn’t seem like he was paying enugh attention in those lessons. lol

    Guys,

I think I was a bit heavy-handed in my criticism of Kirk Hammett. After I hit the send
reply-button I had regrets. Now I still believe in ehat I said, and maybe that’s more important than my “Politically-Correct Backpedaling!” But when I read RobertM20’s replay, my worst fears were recognized. He actually agreed with my stinging crititcism, but the reason I was compelled to backpedal was because I never want to be the one who dashese someone’s dream about playing guitar. Even if I’m right (and I AM!) what difference does it make? My opinion is just that, an opinion. If Hammett inspired a guy like RobertM20 to play in the first place, then that’s great! BTW, if you haven’t heard RobertM20 play, he plays CIRCLES around Kirk Hammett! But again, Kiirk has seen and accomplished things that I’d “die-for!” But I just get disappointed easily. I always had this weird theory that Metallica could’ve been my FAVORITE heavy-rock/metal band if the late-great Dimebag Darrell Abbot was their guitarist instead of Hammett. Picture Hetfield’s (& Burton’s writing with Dime’s lead playing. Plus Dime & Hetfield BOTH rule the universe of heavy rhythm-guitar! Ahhh well…..I digress!

So I’ve always tried not to dash my students’ dreams by trashing on their favorites, regardless of my own opinion! If a Kirk Hammett can inspire a Robert M20 (or even our “fearless leader Sean Conklin!) to pick up a guitar, then SCREW ME & MY OPINION !!! Peace!

Yes, this album is better than St. Anger. But, it’s hard to make something as bad as St. Anger, don’t you agree?

Generally, the album is nothing special. All of the stuff I heard is only warm. Not cold, not hot, just warm.

Guess they are afraid to take risks in their song arrangements. An album that I won’t be rewinding, that’s for sure.

well mentioned about the warm -not cold – not hot – but – warm – thing.

I feel the same way about the album.

I think this album is a bloated mess. I wish they would stop releasing rubbish albums like this one, its almost like they are intent on destroying every last bit of credibility they have left!

I’m almost embarassed for them, knowing that the likes of Testament and Exodus are still putting out great releases.

A sad fate for one of the biggest names in the history of metal šŸ™

I stopped listening to it a while ago. I’ve gone off it massively. The more i listened to it the more it just sounded like a bunch of coll riffs strung together into poor songs, with crappy lyrics and seriously bad solos.

They have lost the spark i think. Everything up to and including Garage Inc was great but the last two albums have sucked so much.

    and dont forget Megadeth :p

Megadeth’s UA is an awesome album; much better than Death Magnetic for sure.

However I would refrain from using harsh words like “rubbish” and “bloated mess”. Metallica is still a huge inspiration to many wanna be guitarists and volcalists, don’t wanna put them off. [:)]. There are some super riffs in there, maybe you have to listen to it more than once? This album is definitely a “listen more and appreciate” gig.

Funny that nobody even made a topic about United Abominations. I was surprised that after “oh so great” The System Has Failed” Mustaine made an album that is just as good.
