For those not familiar, SketchUp is a 3D modeling tool released for free by Google that allows you to model 3D objects. My company uses it for presentations, inserting models of buildings overlaid on actual Google Earth satellite images. I put together one presentation, actually modeled a parking deck then just kind of massed the proposed buildings on the site around it. You can then capture videos panning around in Google Earth Pro ($400), but anyways, it can be used for other stuff in 3D.
I modeled my ESP DV8-R. I didn’t bother with the insane detail stuff and it’s all from memory, but it turned out pretty good, here’s a screen shot I took. Now, the challenge, model YOUR guitar. SketchUp is fun to tool around in if you’re bored. I use it at work in the name of familiarizing myself with the software for future presentations (and it’s friday at 4:30 and I got bored). This whole model (which can be panned around in 3D) took less than an hour to make.
Lets see your additions. The DV8-R was straightforward, as it doesn’t have many curves. I did even put in the bevel, but didn’t bother with details like frets, or strings :P. Or smooth transitions from the back of the neck to the headstock/body.
