Hi,
I’ve been practicing this exercise by Sean – Building speed and stamina – exercise 2
https://www.infiniteguitar.com/guitar-lessons.php?lessonid=752Actually all three, but I’ve recorded a video of me playing exercise 2.
http://rohan.almeida.in/guitar_exercise.html
I’ve not put in on youtube and also posted this in the premium members section since I don’t want these clips to be public. Whats the IG rule about putting up the lessons which we learn here on a public website? Sean, any chance we’ll have an “upload video” feature soon exclusively for premium members? š
Ok, back to the exercise. I have played this exercise at 3 different tempos. My current speed is 110 bpm, and my target speed is 145. You can see I have some difficulties playing it at tempo 145. And Sean’s lesson is something like 170 bpm? š® So i’ve given myself a few months to reach my target of 145.
So my question is: Do I pass at level 120 (the last video) ? š Should I set my current level to 120? I would say yes, I feel comfortable playing this at 120.
And please feel free to give any comments.
Apologies for the poor video quality!
Thanks,
Rohan

Rohan,
That is awesome! I absolutely love seeing videos of progress like this. Thanks a ton for posting these! I also went ahead and moved this to the public forum. That’s totally fine if you post your practice videos in the forum or on youtube. No problems there.
And yeah I’d say you have it pretty well at 120. Great job bro! And remember to really focus on the accented notes with your pinky. Isolating accented notes can help your timing big time.
Keep it up and feel free to post practice vids anytime! š
SeanThanks for posting this Rohan, I’m going to start working on this exercise.

RohanHey Rohan, š
I’m not sure what’s wrong, but I can’t seem to view your Vids of Sean’s Picking Tutorials! š I really want to see how you did too, because I am currently working on these tutorials also, and I find them to be quite helpful and fun! It’s funny, because at first I thought that Sean’s “B.S. & S.- #1” was sort of weird-sounding, but it has gradually grown on me! Now I just dig it as Sean’s “twisted-metal” vibe! (LOL – Sean!) š
Hopefully I’ll be able to hear your takes on these drills soon! Also, keep an eye/ear out for my vids of these drills as well! I’m planning on these being my first stab at actual videotaped/recorded Infinite Guitar material! (I know, it’s about time, right?!? I still have a few BPM’s to achieve before I can “catch” the backing-track! BTW, you were quoting some specific tempo-markings earlier, and I just wanted to let you know (sinced I had already calculated and documented the respective full-speed tempos of each tutorial!)
“Building Speed & Stamina – #1” = 171 BPM.
“Building Speed & Stamina – #2” = 161 BPM.
“B.S. & S. – #3 (Repetition Solo)” = 167 BPM.
Also Rohan, if you haven’t already done so, check out Pavel D’s “Pinky Training” Tutorial (I’m working on this one too, and it’s NOT NEARLY as imposing as Sean’s tempos! (lol!) It’s a really cool “classically-based” piece in “A minor” (actaully passes through”A Harmonic Minor”, “A Natural Minor” and because of the use of some diminished passing chords, actually pulls notes (“F#”) from “A Melodic Minor” as well! This whole piece is played on the D-4 and A-5 strings. So I went ahead and transposed it up an Octave, just to be able to work on “higher-pitched strings,” because I actually find the “higher-pitched-strings” HARDER to play fast, because they’re thinner and not as “rounded” so they have more “pick-resistance” to them! Also worth mentioning here is that with all due respect to Sean C., who has EXCELLENT picking technique , Pavel D. has (had :() TERRIFIC picking/right-hand technique as well, and serves as a great model of RELAXATION and EFFICIENCY! š “Pavel’s Pinky Training” is ALL 1/16th-notes at:
“Pavel’s Pinky Training” = 131 BPM.
I hope you find this info helpful Rohan, and congratulations on achieving one of your initial goals! š
Oh yeah, FutureStyle, best-of-luck with these as well. They are EXCELLENT for your picking technique (IMO!) š

Sean, thanks for moving this into the public forum and for your comments.
Bill, I’m already practicing Pavel’s pinky exercise! My current level is 90 bpm, and target set to 110 so I’ll post a video when I get to that level! Looking forward to see your take. For the problem you mention, try hitting your browser’s refresh button a few times to load the videos. Anyway, you can also get the flv files directly at here

@Futurestyle – viewing videos of lessons certainly helps in motivation, right? š All the best!—

RohanHey Rohan! š
Thanks for the Flash Vids! That worked (I just had to download a flash player, but no big deal!) GREAT JOB dude! Really! You were very articulate, and your timing was excellent (locked-in with the metronome.) Yeah, you’re not too far off from the 145 BPM setting. Keep practicing, and you’ll surely get there. I’ll give you a more detailed reply later, as I’m in a hurry right now, but I just wanted to tell you that you did an EXCELLENT JOB! š
