Hey Rick, š
Question #1: I noticed in your list of specs for the Suhr that it has Sperzel locking tuners. I love those tuners, and I’ve been using them for many years. I’ve actually had them installed in some of my guitars (My Blade Guitars actually came stock with those tuners, which is how I got acquainted with them in the first place back in 1990/Blade #1!) Have you ever used Sperzel locking tuners before?
Question #2: I noticed in your spec-sheet that the Suhr was shipped with Elixir Nanoweb .010’s (I believe the Flaxwoods ship with those strings if I’m not mistaken?) My question is: Do you use Elixir Nanoweb’s or did you immediately change them out when you got the guitar? I’m curious because I’ve been using Elixir Nanowebs (thinner and thus less tone obtrusive than the original Elixir Polyweb coating!) on my acoustic guitars for a few years, and I like them because they obviously last way longer, but I also like the perceived “slightly diminished high-frequency squeak” or “presence-cut” if you will? On electric guitar (especially with moderate to higher gain settings) I figure I need the high-end frequencies to “cut-through” a mix. Therefore, I’ve always used D’Addario XL’s on my electrics. Do you know what I mean? I know a lot of this stuff is subjective to the individual, (as it should be!) however I was just curious about your thoughts on coated-strings, especially as it pertains to electric guitars? (like your new Suhr.)
Question #3: How did you come to choose the Doug Aldrich model pickups? Had you tried them? Had you heard them in another guitar, or did the guys at Suhr just recommend that model for your particular guitar’s specs and your tonal-needs/description? The one thing that I noticed in your Suhr jam with Tom Q. (and I’m aware that you were using Amplitube direct, since you were traveling!) was that your tone seemed to exhibit a bit more low-mids perhaps than some of your other electric guitars at your own place (although when you played alone/unaccompanied at Tom’s, your tone (of course!) seemed more “roomy/ambient.” Also, the pronounced low-mids did not seem as accentuated as they did when you played direct (if that makes any sense?!? – LOL! :o)
P.S. The jam you did with Tom was so much fun to watch (and I’m sure it was fun for you guys too!) You guys both played great! Anyways, I think I speak on behalf of at least most if not all Infinite Guitar members, that we’d love to see more of that type of “jamming” or maybe even a joint tutorial between any two (or more!) IG instructors! The logistics are probably difficult, but I bet it would go over really big with the members! Just a thought? š
Thanks for your time Rick! š
