I have an OLP John Petrucci guitar thats less than a year old. When I first got it I had it set up at my local guitar shop and it sounded great. It had better than average harmonics and I was getting great pinched harmonics out of it. Now when you play between the 12 and 24th fret the notes die out quick and there is a lack of sustain and I have a very hard time getting any pinched harmonics anywhere on the guitar. I know its not my amp because I have been comparing it to my RG770 and my Les Paul and my fender just like I did when I bought it. All of the other guitars still sound great so I know its the guitar. The guitar is still playable and you would not know it has a problem unless you try for harmonics and long sustain. The strings still seem clean and they are Ernie Balls. Should I try changing the strings anyway? Also there is no buzz that is typical with an action that is set to low. The only thing I can think is maybe the change in weather from summer to fall has changed the guitar and it needs to be set up again…… But everything seem so be fine in the setup. The neck is straight and the strings seem to have the same action. If anybody knows what might be causing this please let me know. I have really enjoyed playing this guitar but I am starting to get bummed out about its current sound. I was going to upgrade the pickups to Dimarzio Paf Pros or Tonezones but now I am reluctant to do so. Maybe its the pickups?

Yeah, Just go get it up and have the guy put a new set of strings on it.

I will give that a try. I am not very confident that it will be the fix. It has the newest strings out of all my guitars. But who knows….. Plus I guess its the easiest thing to check. I can put them on myself in a couple of days when I get back to the house.
