Hey everyone, hope all is well. I just finished my take for the Shred This competition and I hope you guys will give a listen. There are lot of talented guitarists in this competition with great takes so this is going to be a tough competition (especially from our judges š )! Thanks in advance for watching/listening and have a great day. Good luck to everyone in the competition!

Hey Ryan, š
Excellent job! š The track’s a lot of fun to play over, isn’t it! I especially liked how you got into the bridge! The transition and dynamics you displayed during the bridge were perfect! Best of luck. š

Hey Bill,
Yeah this track is a dream! It allows you to take so many different approaches to soloing over it, which happens to transition nicely to what I am going to say next.
I recorded a second version of the solo the same day and brushed it off as inferior to my previously posted entry. It has more of a bluesy/shred feel than the first entry which had more jazzy elements. I was listening to it today and I think that I may like this version better! So I uploaded it to youtube and I entered this take as well!
Thanks to everyone for watching and for your kind words Bill, Please check out my second take and let me know which one you like better!

Hey Ryan, š
Well, your first take was solid, and you’re right that it was jazzier, but I think your overall phrasing in this second version seems more natural/comfortable to me, and I believe (from what I can tell) that you may have played more to your strengths (not that I can really sense any weaknesses…but hopefully you’ll know what I mean!) Again, I thought your note-choice really worked on that other (1st) take, it was just that it seemed like you may have fallen into a “repetitious-phrasing-pattern” where you paused in the same (or close to it) spot after/before each phrase, whereas in this take it was less predictable (perhaps more spontaneous?) and as a listener, I liked NOT knowing how the phrasing was gonna be! I liked how on some phrases you paused (like the first version) but then on others you over-extended (in a good way!) the phrases! That one element (coupled with your vicious-chops!) made this 2nd-take more exciting and overall better to me! These are just my opinions!!! š
Great job! š

Hey Bill,
Yeah, I agree with pretty much everything you said. After listening to it again I do see that repeating pattern (rut) I kept falling back on and it detracted from the solo. I think with the second video, I was sick of doing takes haha and it just kind of happened, which is how I would like it to happen anyway. There are so many great players in this competition and its great to see so many great players interpretations.
Thanks for watching!
