    Hey Guys, šŸ™‚

Here is a link to a YouTube clip of my Tool-Tribute band ToolFist playing the old Tool song “Sober” recently at a pretty cool rock-club that we play at periodically called Maximum Capacity: (it’s in Chicopee, MA – USA.) šŸ˜‰

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mY2ROcbtVU

Anyways, here are the inevitable disclaimers: (LOL!)

****** The audio mix is HORRIBLE! (Atleast the guitar is fairly loud though!)

****** For some reason, the rhythm-section isn’t loud enough (DAMNIT!)

****** Too bad about the drums & bass, ‘cuz I think my boys (Gregg & Jim) are pretty good!

I was pretty happy with my tone here. Sober’s an easy song to play, (compared to Tool’s newer & more “polyrhythmic stuff!”) although I still managed a little “glitchy-clam” at the end of the “solo-section” (right around the time that my drummer Gregg false-triggered a “vocal-narration sample” off one of his trigger-sample-drum-pads! Nice, huh?!? – LOL!) Oh well! That’s live for ya! šŸ˜® šŸ˜Ž

I’d love to hear your feedback. (Remember, I’m aware of the mix SUCKING! – LOL!) šŸ˜‰

    Thanks!

    ~Bill Meehan~ šŸ˜€

    Hey Andy! šŸ™‚

Thanks so much for the encouragement man. It means a lot coming from a fine musician like you! We might be shooting more video the next time we play that club, so if we do, I’ll post some! šŸ˜Ž

Thanks again for your feedback! šŸ˜‰

I liked it, especially your sound. Can’t even imagine how your amp sounds when you’re at home or in the studio, because this was live and the sound was close to amazing. I’m not a fan of Tool but i liked it how you played it. Rock on man!

    Hey Guys, šŸ™‚

On behalf of my bandmates in ToolFist, I thank you for your kind compliments! šŸ˜‰

We know that we are far from perfect! (LOL!) However, we do admit to rehearsing regularly and diligently, because “focused-repetition” (IE: Band Practice!) is the only way we know how to maintain a decent level of competence! šŸ˜Ž

Another point to remember is that the song posted here (Sober) is an older song (from 1993’s “Undertow” LP!) While Tool was starting to establish there eventual “heavy-progressive-art-metal” style at that time, they certainly had NOT arrived in terms of having fully developed their individual and collective “chops & styles” yet!
This song (“Sober”) and most other Tool songs from that “era” are much more straight-ahead and not nearly as polyrhythmic by nature! By contrast, consider the song “Jambi” from their most-recent LP, 2006’s “10,000 Days.” Jambi is based-around a “difficult-to-groove muted pulloff riff in 9/8 time-signature!!!” Add to that the fact that the drums & bass are independently applying polyrhythmic grroves of their own that are NOT rhythmically consonant with the guitars (thus the Polyrhythms!!!) šŸ˜®
WOW! Maybe if I am sussessful in getting some of that new video-footage I mentioned in a few weeks, I can include a couple of those more progressive newer songs, OK! šŸ˜Ž

BTW, if anyones interested, here’s the live-rig that I use to try re-creating Adam Jones/Tool’s guitar soundscape:

    – 2007 Gibson Silverburst Les Paul Custom Classic (retrofit w/Duncan JB in Bridge)
    – 2006 Gibson Desertburst Les Paul Standard (retrofit w/Duncan JB in Bridge)
    – Hughes & Kettner Access MIDI Programmable Preamp
    – Hughes & Kettner VS-250 Stereo All-Tube EL84-Based Power Amp
    – Marshall 1960A 4×12 Cab
    – Rocktron Replifex
    – Rocktron Intellifex
    – Behringer FCB1010 MIDI Controller
    – Fulltone Clyde Deluxe Wah-Wah Pedal
    – Rocktron Banshee Talkbox
    – Korg Pitch-Black Chromatic Stage Tuner
    – SKB Rack
    – D’Addario XL115’s (.011 – .049) Strings
    – Dunlop Glass Slides
    – Ibanez Rubber-Grip Heavy Guage Picks

OK, well that’s about it! Let me know what you think or if you have any questions, OK?!? šŸ˜‰
