Hey guys, I desperately need a good guitar for tuning way down to A or B, some guys and I that play together are huge Slipknot and Mastodon fans, but my current guitar just cannot handle the low tunings that they use.:(
Any suggestions on what to get, hopefully for under $1000.00?

Are you up for a 7 string. I think that’d be the best route for that style. Something with a fixed bridge and then drop it down a tone to A. Ibanez do this with string through design if you can live with the Korn association!

Yep, I actually looked at that very guitar, but I just dont really like 7 string guitars.
One of the ones I looked at was a Schecter Baritone Blackjack Series.
I am just not familiar enough with Schecter to shell out $800.00 just yet for one.
LOL!!!

Ah it’s too bad you don’t like 7-strings Coop! I’d suggest a 7-string too in my opinion. I remember when I got a 7-string guitar many years back, it took a short amount of time getting used to it, and once I was used to it I absolutely loved it. That extra string can provide tons of new riffing possibilities. Have you actually played a 7-string before? I could be wrong, but I bet if you spent a good week or two playing a 7 and getting used to it, you might start to like it quite a bit. Could be wrong though! š
Well, crap. IF you two guitar studs suggest a 7 string then I may have to check one out then. The Ibanez sounds like a good one
Just dont be suprised if I have to ask you two how to tune the darn thing. LOL!!!!

Yeah, I would recommend a 7-string as well… bought the Ibanez RG7321 last week and I don’t regret it a bit, after about an hour of playing i got used to the extra string. I’ve not played guitar for that long though so I can imagine that it the adjustment was a little bit easier for me than it should be, hehe.
Good luck! // Emil
How does this one look? I got to see one at the local Guitar Center. Its pretty nice and has a good sound/
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Schecter-C7-ATX-Electric-Guitar?sku=515766IMO, if you don’t want a 7-string, opt for a Bariton-guitar. They have a longer scale neck
(up to over 30″), and thus handle down-tuning WAY better than a regular scale neck.
Ibanez had the Mike Mushock (Staind) model, and I know ESP has one (that is cheaper),
but don’t recall the model name. Just Google for ESP baryton (bariton) scale.Richard, Schecter makes a baritone I have looked at. It has the hotrod Seymour Duncan pickups on it.
Played on it once, it was pretty nice. I may have to check out the ESP. I have played the Fender baritone and dont care for it at all.
