    Hi.

To be quite honest, I’ve been subscribed to guitartricks.com for quite some time now but
it started getting old, shall we say, so I looked elsewhere. And found here!

I’ve been playing guitar on and off (more off than on) for over thirty years. I started
when I was young(er) and bought a 1976 Fender Stratocaster (American Standard Deluxe????) from a friend of mine for $200. (I can only imagine what that guitar might be worth now!!!)
Anyway, I played electric for awhile and then decided to pick up Classic guitar playing which I did for a number of years. I became pretty adept at playing classical music though.
Now, I’ve decided to go back to playing electric again. I have 1 Squier Strat Affinity Series, a Squier Vintage Modified Strat (nice!!!) and a Washburn X-series Pro (I believe it’s an x-50?)
I have two small practice amps (Fender and a Marshall) but I mainly use a VOX headphone amplifier! (I have both the classic model and the metal model as well.)
I like all types of music (aside from Rap, hip-hop and that sort of thing). Guitarists whom I admire would be: Buckethead, Eric Clapton, Ritchie Blackmore, John Williams (Classical/Jazz), Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page,
Pat Travers, David Gilmour, Steve Hackett, and many “metal” guitarists.
I still consider myself a beginner, electric guitar-wise, or perhaps more aptly, a hobby guitarist. I am always looking for ways to improve my playing and infiniteguitar.com seems as good a place as any, if not better, to do so. (From first impressions.)

    Hey rgbrock,

It’s great to have you here man! Welcome to IG and make yourself at home. Feel free to ask us questions anytime you need something.

200 bucks for a ’76 strat? Wow, so I’m assuming you don’t have it anymore. What happened to it!? $200 is a killer deal!

I think it’s great that you have a classical guitar background. I’m sure that will give you a fresh perspective as you progress with the electric. Rick Graham also has a substantial classical background (to say the least), so he can definitely relate.

Anyway, again, welcome aboard and I’ll see you around the site! šŸ™‚

    Hi all,

Thanks for all the kind welcoming words.

I got the ’76 Strat for $200 yes, but that was back in 1976!!!! No, unfortunately I do not have it anymore as I sold it a few years later. (Kick butt with foot furiously!!!) I so do wish I still had that guitar though. Having said that, the Squier Vintage Modified that I have is a very nice guitar. I wouldn’t say it is as good a quality guitar as a pure Fender but I will say
that it’s just as good, if not better, than any MIM Strat I’ve ever laid my hands on!

In answer to another posting: I’m located in the Hartford area of CT. not directly in Hartford, but close.

    Hello in Connecticut! šŸ™‚

I’m from Massachusetts here, so I guess we’re almost neighbors! (lol!) Anyways, to elaborate on what Sean and others here have said. If you haven’t already done so, you must check out Rick Graham (IG Instructor) playing/teaching nylon/classical! (Then go check out his electric-playing, and be prepared to be floored by a seemingly endless supply of talent and ability!) šŸ˜® He is phenomenal! Then again, all of the IG Instructors are excellent in their respective ways! Also, this is a great site to learn in and to converse/hang-out in (if you so choose.) I think you’ll find everyone here to be friendly, supportive, and respectful of each other. One thing I like a lot abot Infinite Guitar is that the Instructors are collectively and individually well-rounded. That is to say, you’ll probably figure out (on your own) what each Instructor’s area of extreme expertise lies, and then depending on what area of guitar your looking to improve at, you’ll find the appropriate tutorials. One more thing. I suppose some students really love note-for-note transcriptions/tutorials of poular songs, but I personally don’t care about that stuff (because I can do that myself!), so I like how IG places more emphasis on teaching lots of different techniques and styles in a general sense. That way, you can apply it to fit your needs (whether that be original music or “spot-on” note-for-note “copy-music.”) Subsequently, I believe this to be a more effective and rewarding learning experience. šŸ˜‰

    Welcome aboard, and best-of-luck! šŸ˜Ž

    Hey TJ, šŸ™‚

This might be a bit “off the thread’s topic,” but I just did a gig in Northeast Connecticut (Putnam, CT I believe) a few weeks a go with my Tool-Tribute band (called ToolFist. at a place called “Rick’s.Billiards” It wasn’t a very big place, just a bar with a few pool-tables and a bandstand. It was actually the Wed. night before Thanksgiving, so I guess it was about 4-5 weeks ago. There wasn’t much of a crowd, but the people that were there were very enthusiastic/supportive of our performance. šŸ˜Ž

Have you ever heard of that place, or is that way too far away from you to be familiar with it? Just curious? How about the “new Connecticut guy” rgbrock? šŸ˜‰
