So what is your verdict on this band?
Personally, I love them. Not only because of Mikael Akerfeldt, but because they’re UNIQUE and DIFFERENT. Which in this day and age is something that is as scare as fresh water in death valley.
My friend Steve got me into them. Took me a while to get used to them, but now I can’t stop listening to them.

Die hard Opeth fan here!… well I was for years. After that Deliverance/Damnation release I was a bit turned off. As goes for the album after that, I have heard and enjoy them but they didnt compare to the likes of Blackwater Park, Still Life or Morning Rise (which is quite a leap from the others mentioned )my personal favourite ๐
I think after the D/D release they got a whif of mainstream sales and this appears to have affected thier later recordings. None the less, I still go and see them every time they come to Melbourne. They never play a show without revisiting the oldies.
I really liked all of opeth’s albums.I liked the new ones as well as the old ones. They are a %100 yay!

Glad to hear!
I’m really looking forward to their new album. cause let’s face it, any riff that breaks a church organ has GOT to be good.
Major Opeth fan here. Can’t wait to see them on Prog Nation here in Minnesota in May.
I do not listen to them as much as I’d like to. I own a couple of albums, but in general I’m not much into growling, though I think ร kerfeldt has one of the best vocals when it comes to that kind.
I’ve rented most albums from the library and only own Damnation, Morningrise and Blackwater Park. Those are also the three albums I like the best of those I’ve heard. I’m not too much a fan of their new material.
I have what you call an Obsession with them, I got all there albums, Watershed looks oh so promising, I love Damnation and Ghost Reveries like they were my religion, My two favorite albums from them, But of course, Blackwater Park is extremely close second! ๐
I dont think there is a dramatic difference in later recordings with mainstream success. I can equally enjoy Ghost Reveries and Orchid, with the former just being the natural progression of things.
All in all, I think they’re a great band, awesomely proggy and very original ๐
I recently got into them a lot. Amazing band.
I only recently got into Opeth, but I really dig the growls ๐ I find them much more unique than most growls
