    I have no idea if I understand this term correctly. Please define it in a simple manner.

    There can be several explanations of that term, but here is some the I reckon:

    -a number of notes arranged in a certain way
    -an idea that’s easy to remember
    -a catchy group of notes
    -usually a good characteristic of someone’s playing
    -generally – the way you make up your own group of notes in a solo, in a rhythm and melodic way of speaking

    Seems like a pretty broad term.

    I always thought about it as the way you play the notes (legato, staccatto, vibrato and all that stuff) rather than what notes you play.

    I think that qualifies too. Ive always thought it like this, for example:

    you got a lick of lets say 8 notes. Now you could play the 8 notes with their respective note values and its cool. But if you add phrasing to them, you could start one of the notes in particular with a slide and a bend to one, do a pull-off between two, and add some strong vibrato to the last one.

    thats how i see it šŸ˜€
