Hey Ryan, š
AWESOME job on this incredibly challenging tune by Racer X! It’s interesting that BOTH of those guys (Paul & Bruce) were AWESOME, but I think because of PG ending up in Mr. Big a few years later, he went on to “shred-superstardom,” whereas BB is still a relative unknown (except for Mike Varney Disciples like yourself! – LOL!) That said, I think Bruce Bouillet is an INCREDIBLE guitarist – very underrated. Don’t get me wrong though, Paul Gilbert deserves ALL of the accolades that he gets! When it comes to “staccato-shred” with that killing classic-rock feel, Paul is THE MAN!!! š š
Again, great job Ryan! š

Hey bill, thanks a lot for the kind words. I am VERY surprised that Bruce hasn’t been more active in the music scene. I just found out that he released a few solo albums and I will need to pick those up ASAP. I love both of these guitarists and they are both huge influences but I think that Bruce’s style lends itself to be a little bit more varied and “creative” than Paul’s is.
Did you get a chance to see G3 with Paul and Bruce? They played a lot of Paul’s new stuff from his two latest solo albums as well as some old Racer X tunes and it was great to see them back together doing all the live harmonies, just as they were intended. Out of Petrucci, Satch, and Paul, I enjoyed Paul’s set the most, just an overall good time.
Thanks again for watching!

Hey Ryan, š
I know what you mean by Bruce’s “varied” style. He is AWESOME! š
As a matter of fact, I have seen the Bruce/Paul reunion at G3 on some YouTube videos. You’re right, it is cool to see them playing together again! š Didn’t they end up doing one of Bruce’s solo-tunes that you referred to? I thought I read that somewhere, but perhaps I’m wrong about that….not sure?!?
Hey Ryan, I just realized that you’re from Pennsylvania, right…Didn’t Paul Gilbert grow-up in Pennsylvania? If so, do you know how far (approx.) away you live from where he did before he moved out to L.A. to attend Musician’s Institute/Guitar Institute? Just curious? š
BTW, My only “claim-to-fame” (in terms of growing-up in proximity to shred-greatness! :D) is that being from the suburbs of Boston, MA, I got to go see Nuno Bettencourt play in some small/dive-clubs WAY before he became famous for his work with Extreme, as there was a “couple-of-year-period” back in 1987-1989 when (locally) the word got out about this “whiz-kid” on guitar who was on the Boston-scene, who played lead guitar like “EVH-meets-YJM,” but had a “funkiness” in his feel and rhythm-playing that was more like “Joe Perry/Aerosmith-meets-Jimmy Page/Led Zeppelin-meets-EVH!” (that’s a lot “meeting” and a lot of “EVH-influence” I guess – LOL! ) Anyways, I went through a period there in the late-80’s and early-90’s where I would go see Extreme/Nuno any time they came around, and early-on (1988-1990) they played the local-clubs of Boston A LOT! I always camped out “right-in-front-of” Nuno, and let me tell you: “He was ALWAYS “ON!” š
Come to think of it, it was at around that same time (maybe a little later…1990-1991) that I got to see Mr. Big at a couple of the bigger local-area Boston clubs (The Paradise, and The Avalon) and I also fought my way to the front and saw Paul Gilbert from like “5-feet-away!” Seeing Nuno and Paul up THAT CLOSE, was amazing, and I’ll never forget how exilhirating that felt! š
(Unfortunately, their “shred-greatness” never “rubbed-off-on-me!” – TRANSLATION: I haven’t worked hard enough :o…..YET!)

Wow! Sounded excellent Ryan. Killer playing. Also really liked how you filmed two tracks. Thanks for sharing and be sure to post more vids in the future.
Yeah that was awesome š
thanks for watching guys and infernalgr, im gonna have to buy your album when my paycheck comes in! Fantastic playing!
Bill – I am not sure if they played one of his tunes at the Philly show but i could be mistaken. I did just find his solo albums on amazon though and I need to get those, as well as infernalgr’s album, as soon as I get some money! As to how close he lived to me is a mystery to me, I know he was in eastern PA, where I am but i’m not sure. I know Greg Howe is from Eastern PA as well, I guess theres something in the water! I haven’t listened to much Extreme, but I know a few tracks and Nuno is a legend!
Thanks again! Keep an eye out for a new Etude I have written and my very late entry to the Shred this too comp!
