I’ll be a proud member of the Suhr family soon. The CB Custom Standard is about 2 months away! Choosing the features and specs was like writing Santa a wishlist for Christmas, wouldn’t you say?

    Very excited.

Tom and Rick’s Suhrs are both very beautiful and I really enjoyed hearing the contrasts and similarities between them in those youtube jams.

That’s awesome news Chris! I guarantee you won’t be disappointed……..

What specs have you gone for? I’ve never ordered a guitar to my own specs before so it was really exciting but at the same time nerve racking not knowing If I made the right decision. I can say now that I certainly did, and then some šŸ˜‰

I recorded this demo a few weeks ago and it might give you an idea how the Suhr sounds with my own set up

Really looking forward to some vids of you ripping it up, Suhr style!

Sounds ace Rick. Love that song.

My build sheet looks something like this…

    Standard
    Basswood Body
    Quilt Maple Top
1pc Maple neck Quartersawn No BFTS
    Even C slim neck profile, .800 – .880 10″ – 14″ radius
    Tusq nut
    Jumbo SS frets
    Gotoh 510TS FE1 trem
    1.65″ width nut
    Chrome hardware
    Sperzel locking machine heads
    No pickguard, rear routed
Electronics: Volume, Tone, 5 way, Push-Pull coil tap for both HBs, blower switch
    Side input jack
    Chrome knobs
    Neck p/up: SSV Zebra
    Mid p/up: FL Standard Black
    Bridge p/up: SSH+ Zebra
Finish: Trans Sky Blue Burst Quilt
    Scraped Binding
MOP logo with gloss headstock (black face and side inlay dots though so I can see them on
    stage)
Light/Medium hand-scalloping on last four frets
    10-46 Elixir

When I got the pdf back to approve I think they’d put the trem with vintage saddles and I went “ok, go with that”. I can always get the other saddles but the bent ones will sound more open anyway. It’s going to be a cracker of an axe!!!

Man, that does indeed sound Killer! Can’t wait to see it in action.

I think when I order my next I’ll be including the blower switch and poss coil tap too. The blower switch sounds like such a useful thing to have at your disposal, especially live.

Do you know if Suhr has an Aussie distributor yet?

The thing I’m imagining with the blower is, imagine the neck pickup is coil tapped, the volume is half way down and the tone is rolled off a bit for a smooth tone then BAM, hit the blower and kick in the HB like a smack in the face! lol.

Oz distributor, the guy listed as being the local distributor seems to be just getting started as there’s no content on the site he has. I think there’s only a store or two stocking them. I look forward to getting the word out locally though. Ed might bring Guthrie at some point.

Awesome! Great specs. That will be a fast playing neck for sure, and a Modern with H/S/S pickup configuration will set you apart.

That kind of wait will be hard but it speaks volumes about the popularity right now.

Mine is due to be shipped soon but I think the scalloping is holding things up a bit cause the guy that does it is swamped or on leave or something. I can’t remember which.

Thanks Chris!I read the specs of your guitar and it looks awesome too.The scalloped frets is a good idea, did you try it before?I never played on a scalloped fretboard…no matters about getting the right tunning when you re playing a note?

    What s exactely the “blower”?

    Thanks.

    Sorry! Missed your questions!

I used to scallop all the frets of my guitars when I was a young Yngwie freak and it really suited what I was doing. Because bending and vibrato are easier with a good grip of the string, anyone that is heavy with their fretting or has a tendency to pull chords out of tune will have a little trouble with it. In this case, it’s just on the last 4 frets to help me get some serious bending power on the high notes. With 22 frets I still want to be able to reach Fs and F#s if lucky.

The blower switch is like bypassing the electronics (vol, tone) and just putting the raw power of the bridge humbucker through to the output. It’s reportedly a slightly hotter signal and can be engaged regardless of how the electronics happen to be set when you hit the blower. EVH, Steve Lukather and Paul Gilbert are some examples of guys I can think of that at one stage or another have had the tone pots removed or disconnected in their guitars for the same reason.

Ok,so the scalloped frets are not for me cause my left hand is very heavy :S

Thanks for the answer about the blower Chris!Thank you so much!

Mine is now done and Ed reckons it looks unreal. So in a week it should be here along with a Koko boost pedal for good measure!
