Sitting here watching the world championship in Hockey, Sweden vs. Canda.
Messing around with my Line6 Toneport a bit, trying to find something in the style
of the GREAT Allen Hinds. Or at least, get something out of the Toneport that can pass for it. I looking for a decent tone for direct recording, and I’m no looking at a old Sansamp Classic pedal, which I remember fondly from my youth =) We’ll see.For now, here is a short impro I did, tell me what you think of the tone, and disregards and unfocused playing on my behalf (Sweden is loosing baaad darn it!).
I used an acoustic amp-simulator and the line6 RAT, ith my Flaxwood Liekki with custom P-90’s (ALnico 2 and formwar winding).

I’m sorry to hear about your beloved Swedish National Hockey Team :(. I know why they lost, if you’re interested……You see, I’ve been a Boston Bruins (NHL) fan since I was a little boy (MANY, MANY, MANY years ago!) having been a lifelong resident in the northwest-suburbs of Boston, MA – USA, and for the last 13 seasons, my favorite Boston Bruin player has been the gritty, hard-working, and tenacious Swede – P.J. Axelsson! (I believe he was a member of that AWESOME 2006 Swedish National Team?!?) Anyways, P.J. is NOT a member of the 2009 Swedish Team bro! There’s your problem! (LOL!) (In all fairness to the 2009 Swedish team, Axellson is getting a bit “long-in-the-tooth” – (errr..uhmmm….that’s English slang for OLD!) So they probably went for a younger and bigger team perhaps?!? Anyways, I always liked the way Axelsson played the game!
Oh yeah…GUITAR!!!…
Your guitar playing and tone are stellar as usual! I LOVE that Liekki bro! (That color RULES too!) I came up with a cool idea the other day. Tell me what you think!
I LOVE the stock Liekki sound (Duncan P-90’s – BTW, I am aware that YOUR P-90’s are custom and different! ;)) but for the sake of versatility, how about taking a Rautia model, routed for 2-humbuckers, and equipping it with a Duncan P-Rails in the Bridge (and maybe the neck too!) That way I’d get the P-90 Bridge Pickup sound (which I love!) but then I’d have the option of the P-90 coils in series with the additional blade-type coil to yield a pseudo-humbucker, for thick humbucking Bridge-Position tones as well?!? Cool idea, or what?!? (BTW, below is a YT link to check out the Duncan P-Rails pickup if you’re NOT familiar with it’s options/tones – I think it’s revolutionary!):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZhJXcSVnfs
I do realize that the resultant Humbucker, might not be as cool as a standalone humbucker (like a Alnico-Pro, Screamin’ Demon, or JB), but it IS rockin nonetheless, and the P-90 only selection in the P-Rails Pickup is IDENTICAL to Duncan’s standalone P-90 pickup (stock in the standard Liekki – like Rick Graham’s!) which I love! š
What do you think?!? š
BTW, once again, EXCELLENT job on that Chord Scale Voicing Tutorial bro! š

Hey man!
Thanks! And yeah, too bad about the loss š
Oh, and about the P-rails, I did answer your questions in the other thread, check it out.
I much prefer Rautia’s design (pre-dates Duncan actually), sounds much better IMO.
https://www.infiniteguitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=938Hey Richard,
I’m an idiot!!! (LOL!) š® I missed your response here, so I apologize! š
Anyways, you have some very interesting things to say about pickups! You seem to know so much about the electrical characteristics of the pickups. Have you studied electronics formally??? Just curious. Anyways, are the “Bar-O-Caster” pickups available to purchase separarte from a Flaxwood guitar??? Furthermore is your and his “noiseless/stacked” version available yet? One more question: Does your & his “noiseless/stacked” version sound much different (IE: Does it lose any of it’s “coolness”) as a result of the hum-cancelation??? Sorry for so many questions Richard! As you’ve probably figured out by now, I am very inquisitive, especially when it comes to guitar-tone and music in general!!!
(LOL!) š® šThanks for your opinions and expertise! š
~Bill Meehan~ š
Hey bro!
No problems man!
Never studied this stuff formally, just self-taught in all things
guitar š I just like to fix things up I guess =)
His Bar-O’s ARE avaliable through http://www.rautiaguitars.com
The Stacked Bar-O’s has all of the liveliness and twang of their unstacked
counterparts, I couldn’t really tell them apart. Maybe a taaad bit more openness
in the unstacked ones, I don’t know. The stacked ones are custom-order though, since they
apparently is a bit of a hassle to wind š However, Veijo is something of a pickup genious
(apart from a guitar-building one), and could wound the pickups to any character you’d like,
choosing various magnets, windings, wire, technique, output. Just shoot him an email
once you’ve browsed through his website, I’m sure he’ll be more than happy to help you out
(take into consideration though that delivery might be a few weeks, since he IS working full-time as the luthier for Flaxwood š )Hey Richard, š
Thanks so much for the info bro! AWESOME! I think I’m gonna actually wait to do that pickup-idea until I can get my own Flaxwood (I’m in the process of selling some gear now, so it might be a little while! – LOL!) š®
Anyways, I know you were watching the Swedish National Hockey team the other day, and you were a bit “bummed-out” over their loss, but at least you can take solace in the fact that your fellow-countryman Henrik Stenson won a HUGE golf tournament on Sunday (beating out Tiger Woods and all of the other competitors along the way! Stenson was INCREDIBLE BTW!) which netted him a cool $1.7 million-US-dollars!!! š® š Congratulations to Sweden’s Henrik Stenson! (I’ll bet his wife already has that money spent! – LOL!) š š
Thanks again for the info & opinions bro! š
