    Hey guys,

I was just wondering if any of you have any tips for transcribing music that is written for another instrument? I’m not sure how to figure out the best fingerings and which bits to simplify. I’d love to arrange some bill evans and chopin tunes, but i don’t know where to start…

    cheers,

    will

    Hey Will,

I’d maybe recommend checking out some midi software if you haven’t already. Try: http://www.anvilstudio.com/

Then try and google for quality midi files of songs you’d like to study, by Chopin for example. Then import the midi file into Anvil Studio, and you should be able to see how the various instruments are transcribed.

Doing that can give you a cool way to study piano music or other various instruments. You can also change the tempo of the songs and study note by note, etc. Anyway, midi software like that can definitely help you translate the music to guitar.

Hopefully that helps give you some ideas!
    Sean
