Ok, so yet another boring day at work and while I am listening to some music on my IPod, I start to think about what really makes me unique and stand out from ANYONE else on the planet.
So this is one question where you are really going to have to think and search within yourself and ask “What is it about me that makes ME a unique individual? what sets me apart from anyone else?”
And as the thoughts scattered around in my empty cranium, I figured I would pass along some of my hysteria to you and see what you all could come up with. Plus it might get us to understand one another here better as individuals. I don’t know, this was just an idea and I figure I’d roll with it and see what would happen.
I’m hoping that people will take this seriously. And I shall start off:
-I don’t care for ANY sports and that includes: playing, watching or talking about them.
-I tend to mimic people alot to try and get laughs.
-I am almost completely blind in my left eye and because of this, my right eye had to take up the slack. So what normally everyone would see with both eyes, I see with mostly one eye.
-I can go from acting like a child to being completely calm and docile in no time flat.
-I have scars all over my lower body from an “accident” when I was very little.
-I know NOTHING about cars. If something is wrong with it and the gas tank doesn’t say “Empty” I’m screwed. But if it is, I say “Ok guys, I got this! Just let me get the tool kit a.k.a Wallet”:p
-I do not have a cell phone.
-I am not a religious person in any way. (I’m more agnostic than anything)
-I am quick to pick up on tunes in a live setting. In other words, I am usually able to pick up the structure of a song that I have NEVER heard before and play my way through the piece as it is written. Like on the fly learning. Many people have heard this and can vouch for this ability.
-I do not care for pop culture.
-I have had asthma since I was a baby.
-I have never had a relationship in my life. Not even a kiss. (*emo time*)
-I have one bottom canine tooth that is directly in front of another and it sticks out kinda like how you see bulldogs have that one tooth that is showing in cartoons, usually on the bottom. (so yeah, I call it my bulldog tooth. How original. :D)

A saying from Osho, which i’ve twisted a bit:
The desire to be unique is one of the most common desires in all
A bit ironic š
Well RobertM20,
I think that “NO-two-people” experience the same accumulation of life-experiences. I think that this (as well as genetics) can explain the huge differences between any two people.
One question I’ve often pondered is the possible correlation between “talent” and “IQ?” I know that on the surface, this might seem like a silly question. However, I have noticed that a lot of the really good musicians I know tend to be pretty darn intelligent! Has anyone else noticed this? I’m sure there are exceptions, and I’m certainly NOT excluding hard work from the talent recipe! Hard work and repetition is essential in my opinion, but I wonder if IQ might “separate the men from the boys” so to speak!
Again, hard work and a passion for music is essential in my opinion. I mean, if it were only about IQ, then the highest concentration of “burning musicians” would be found at a MENSA conference!!! (MENSA is the international, non-profit society for those with high-IQ – at or above the 98th percentile of a given IQ-test.)
I would love to know the average IQ of some of the top-rated musicians!
One thing I remember hearing about IQ is that one’s IQ doesn’t really change throughout one’s lifetime! Interesting, huh?!? I think I believe this theory too, because I took an IQ test in 11th-grade (when I was 16-years old), and scored within one point of my tested IQ score from when I was in 1st-grade (6-years old!) Imagine that!
Hey Robert, did I change the subject on your thread? I didn’t mean to! I think it’s somewhat related. Maybe it speaks to what a scatterbrain I can be sometimes!!!
Maybe that’s what makes me different from the next guy!SORRY!!!

Interesting thoughts you are having, and I find myself having much of the same thoughts you are having. ( I donĀ“t recognise IQ tests as a good way to messure intelligens, though).
In my experience as well, the majority of the really good players I have come across is humble, often intelligent persons. One of the best examples of this is metheny. If you have read interviews with him or checked out his site – you will understand that this is a really intelligent person, who has reflected on many big questions.. and I think thats maybe the key..when you are dwelving into music and doing so with the intention of learning as much on the subject as possible, I think that eventually you have to reflect on many big issues that also can relate to life on many levels. I often finding myself being able to understand and relate to many different people in different fields because of the thoughts and reflections I have had to do during years of guitar playing/learning music.@billmeedog 5199 wrote:

hahahaahha, Yeah, I think you might have taken a back road as far as where this thread was going to. But ya know, all that stuff is very interesting. The thing about someone’s IQ never really changing seems nice and I might want to test that theory.
Ya know, also in a way, everything you said pertains to the topic because everything you said here kinda shows how different you are from others. these are things not many people think about at all. all they seem to be concerned about is “am I going to get these bills paid on time?” or “Who is going to be the next winner of American idol?” People never seem to take the time to ask questions and find new things out anymore.
And I think that might be a reason why education in this nation is so poor. People are not excited about learning. everyone is too “fat” and happy. I’ve always said that the most important thing you can ask in your life is “Why” because that is how you grow as a person in both mind and body. Never stop asking questions and never stop looking for answers. That is how humans distinguish themselves from other species on the planet. we have the ability to distinguish between the objective and the subjective and are able to understand how consciousness works, and it is with this incredible brain that we seek to find all the answers to life’s questions. We’re naturally curious about ourselves as people and I think that some people seem to go that extra step in trying to understand how things in our world work both in a physical sense and in an intellectual sense. And you have just kinda proven that.
…ok now who’s the F’ing scatterbrain here! :p See, here’s another way I’m different. I can go on and on about something that can only seem to make sense to me and only me. LOL
(But if you do understand any of it, then props to you, my friend)

Sorry to dissapoint you, but those are all me as well.
I have a dirty great scar across my stomach from when I had an operation when I was 5 weeks old (The anaesthetist screwed up big time and gave me 10 times too much anaesthetic, they weren’t sure if I’d live. Good times)
I smashed my face off a brick wall (unitentionally, might I add) when I was 6 and broke my nose.
I like insanely high action on my guitars (Tom can vouch for this)

Hey Lyle,
I’ve always had a fear of needing an operation and then having the anasthesiologist screw-up never to return (alive) from the surgery! Now you’ve confirmed the possibility of my worst fears! I AM sorry that you had to endure this though! Maybe subconsciously, you have an extra appreciation for life (having almost lost it) so that you live every day as if it were your last (something that most of us could learn from. I know that I could improve on this!) You’ve certainly found a passion for music at a young age, and you have excellent feel, aptitude, ability, and as Richard Lundmark would say” (insert Swedish accent here (lol!) “You’ve got your groove-on bro!” I should also add that you (Lyle) display a very impressive mature and humble attitude about yourself and your peers, and THAT my friend will go a long way in your career towards other great musicians wanting to collaborate with you! Sure, most people would love to be able to play as well as Yngwie (perhaps with a bit more diversity though!) However, no one wants to be known as a jerk! That’s why I say Lyle, keep working hard like you have, and stay grounded and humble like you’ve been so far, and musicians, producers, other bands, A&R execs., etc will ALL want you to be included!
BTW, the high action you noted helps to explain your EXCELLENT TONE! Everyone knows that higher-action increases sustain (as there is that much more room for maximum vibration energy near the adjacent frets!) That’s great that you’re used to that already Lyle! Plus that’ll make playing slide WAY EASIER on your main guitars without having to set-up a “special” guitar just for slide (unless you want the separate slide guitar to be in an “open-tuning,” but that’s a whole different topic!)
BTW bro, you never told me if you transcribed that Gilbert tune you played by ear, or if you got a transcription elsewhere? My guess is that you did it yourself. Am I correct?

Cheers mate. BTW, I did reply to your question but you must have missed it. I did play it by ear, that’s how I do everything, and I didn’t make any notes.

Ouch, that sucks. I wish mine were the result of some stupid screw up in surgery. Unfortunately, all of mine were the result of my drunken mom and a .22 she had gotten her hands on. (It’s a very interesting story if anyone would like to hear it.)
And the high action thing… yeah, you have that one all to your own dude. š The one in my Ernie Ball is high, but I have learned to live with it. Now all I have to do is have them set up my guitar so I can slap some 11 or 12 gauge strings on there. Then I can REALLY kick some ass. š
Nice game š
– I learned to read by myself when I was 1, the first word i learnt to recognize was “panna” (italian for “cream”), then I learnt to write at 3 (and i skipped the 1st class of the elementary school going straight to the second)

– I speak english, french and spanish ’cause i just can’t stand without saying anything

Hi there Angelica, š
Best of luck here with your guitar studies! š
I just wanted to comment on a couple of your self-observations (see above.)
First of all, I think the your disdain for beauty contests bodes well for your fellow Italian woman who do enter beauty contests, because your absence gives them a fighting chance to actually win! š®
Secondly, I think your comment about woman paying attention to diet should be qualified to state: “I think I’m the only THIN woman who does not pay attention to diet!” Know what I mean?!? (lol!) :p
Again best of luck here at IG! This site is great! š
