    Apocalypto

Pretty brutal movie, but what an amazing story! It’s basically about Mayan Indians and how one in particular got separated from his family. The whole movie is about how he goes through leaps and bounds to get his family back. Really gorgeous movie too as most of it was filmed in deep Mexican jungles.

Not one I’d watch over and over, but it’s an excellent movie to check out.

    Hey Sean, šŸ™‚

I’ve seen Apocolypto a few times (very compelling!) I agree that it is beautifully shot (Mel Gibson knows what he’s doing!) I love how Rudy Youngblood’s character (Jaguar Paw) overcomes seemingly insurmountable odds in the defense of his pride and his family (down in a hole!) šŸ˜®

Another movie I saw recently that had plenty of brutality and feats of superhuman spirit, was the docu-drama Get Out Of My Yard starring the intense stage actor Paul Gilbert! In this movie, Gilbert explains (point-by-point) his execution of some of the trickier “tasks-at-hand!” (LOL!):p:cool:

But seriously, the coolest thing about watching these Gilbert Instructional DVD’s, is simply Paul’s genuine enthusiasm for the electric-guitar! (I believe this is why he is such an excellent teacher, in addition to being such a GREAT rock-guitarist!) I love how he always emphasizes some of the expressive elements like vibrato. (I too make it a point to emphasize such topics with my students!) šŸ˜‰

Anyways, those are my recent movies! šŸ˜‰

P.S. If Rudy Youngblood’s character was Jaguar Paw, then I think Paul Gilbert should be Cheetah Fingers!!! šŸ˜€

myself, I watched the martial arts classic Best of the Best yesterday before heading to taekwondo. It has all the elements of a classic MA-movie. Characters, the warrior-coach, the training montages (several in fact!), GREAT fight-scenes. Some horrible over-acting from Eric Roberts though hehe, but what else is new from that man =) I have seen this movie time and time again, but it doesn’t matter, I STILL get that lump of pure joy in my throat as the team defeat the odds and kick some korean butt in the end lol (the butt being korean is not the thing, just the general art of kicking but as under-dogs, is). Imdb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096913/

another recent one was a VERY cool viking.adventure movie called Pathfinder, which takes place in America about a 1000 years ago, and deals with the struggle between the Viking and the native American Indians. A young viking boy (son a chieftain) is left behind on a raid since he refuses to kill a defenseless mother and child. He is later adopted by the Indians, and next time round fights on their side. Great action/adventure with the great Karl Urban (LOTR) as The Ghost Warrior. Imdb: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0446013/

The last movie I saw was The Jungle Book – an animated movie made in the 1970’s, I think. Its the latest movie I’ve seen, but I’ve now seen it over and over close to 30 times! šŸ˜®

It has one of the most beautiful soundtracks. Check out the opening symphony. And the story, the characters, the dialogues. All super stuff!

Last one I saw was the “Re-Imagining” of Friday The 13th

And I must say, I LOVED IT! I had my doubts going in because Michael Bay was producing and it was directed by the guy who ruined the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, but within the first 5 minutes, I knew I was in for something good.

The character dialogue in this one seemed a tad more realistic when compared to alot of other horror movies and the parts, while not the best ones, were acted out fairly well. Some of it was predictable seeing as the music sometimes gave it away but there were a few shocks to me in the movie. Also some of the parts were actually funny. They took a risk by putting humor in it but it actually worked to their advantage because they did not seemed contrived at all.

But come on… we all know the real reason for watching this movie: Jason Voorhees

I grew up with this guy. I have been watching the Friday The 13th movies since I was 8 and I have always been one that can relate to Jason’s plight. Derek Mears did a GREAT job with Jason. Even though he is a human in this film and can sometimes get taken aback by their victims reactions, he really makes Jason stand his ground as an unstoppable killing force. Some have said that this is the “Steroid” Jason, and I think the big coat has something to do with it.

I loved how they portrayed him as a tactful hunter who uses all his years in the woods to his advantage, hunting and stalking his prey like a wild animal.

Some of the movie did not really make much sense, like why he kept that one girl locked in his lair for 6 weeks just because she had on his mothers locket. Ad what the hell did she eat anyways? We never once saw him tossing her anything. If he had thrown her a part from one of his kills then yeah, I could see how she managed to survive. I suppose he kept her down there for the same reason he had almost let Ginny go in part 2: because she was wearing Mrs. Voorhees’ sweater and in Jasons screwed up mind, he saw her as his mother. I also wished they had gone into some of the myth behind Jason growing up and give us some background on him, but I think they might be saving that for the 13th movie.

I was glad I had gone and seen it on Friday the 13th, because it’s almost like an unwritten rule. :p I walked out of there still on an adrenaline rush from the entire movie. The only bad part was that there were 2 black dudes talking through the ENTIRE film. Guys just HAD to comment on EVERYTHING going on on the screen, especially when it came to the sex and drug use.

I urge you all to go and see this remarkable film. You will not be dissapointed. šŸ˜€

I saw The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button a couple of days ago. Reminded me of Forest Gump a lot. Immensely enjoyable and thoroughly recommended.

Just saw Slumdog Millionaire last night. Great movie! A bit predictable I thought, but still very unique and entertaining. Really great acting by all the characters as well.

    No Country for Old Men

Really thought-provoking movie here. The message is somewhat sad but true, conveying that the violence and evil of one generation is often overwhelming to the preceding older generation.

I really liked the raw feeling that the Coen brothers gave to this movie. There was hardly any music in it, and some of the scenes were crazy intense.

Anyway, you have to be in the mood for it, but it’s a very well-done movie.

Quantum of Solace (on BlueRay) http://www.007.com/:
No, its not serious but it is a good time.
Enjoyed the movie and honestly think that Daniel Craig really brings Bond to life.
He plays it so much darker and serious. His portrayal of Bond is much more tangible to me.
The audio production in the opening car chase scene is awesome. TURN IT UP LOUD. The DBS Aston Martin V12 screeeeaaaamszzzzzH.

Totally love this movie! Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman at their best in my opinion. Really intense movie with great acting all around. Has a catchy soundtrack as well.

    The Dark Knight

Definitely one of my favorite movies. Christopher Nolan is a genius of a director, and the cast is just awesome. The soundtrack is brilliant as well. I’ve seen this movie tons of times and never get tired of it.

    Sean,

I haven’t seen “The Dark Knight” yet? I’ll try to get around to that one soon! šŸ˜‰

BTW, I saw Clint Eastwood’s “Gran Torino” recently, and I think it is an outstanding movie! Really brilliant story and acting all-around! I can’t say enough about this flick. It is definitely one that makes you think about it a lot (even a few days after you see it!) It’s very deep in certain ways! Clint OWNS! šŸ˜Ž

watched a film in the theatre a few weeks back, called Lars And The Real Girl…it was very strange….a dude starts believing that a blow-up doll is his REAL girlfriend. Everyone else believes it too. LOL.

it was interesting…pretty entertaining….slightly weird though!

    6/10.

    Hey Mandz, šŸ™‚

I just saw “Slumdog Millionaire” Saturday night, and I loved it too! šŸ˜‰ BTW, how GORGEOUS was the all-grown-up/adult version of the girl (Latika) who was friends (Three Musketeers, remember?!? – LOL!) with the two brothers? She’s SERIOUSLY HOT! šŸ˜® šŸ˜® šŸ˜‰ But all that aside, yes the movie was excellent on all levels!!! šŸ˜Ž

Saw Anvil! The Story of Anvil around a week back. I thought it was a very well made and touching documentary.

I remember listening to an album from Anvil (can’t recollect the name) back in ’95 and I was very impressed as I was just getting into Metal. Its really strange how they just dropped out of the scene.
