What do you guys think of him?

I’ll post my opinions after I’ve managed to gather them together šŸ˜‰

Great guitar player, despite his shortcomings in the diversity department šŸ˜‰

And I’m gonna get it out now… he does seem like a bit of a dick at time, but so does Steve Vai.

He was the guy who really got me into the “shredding” type of guitar playing. I remember buying the Live in Leningrad CD when I first started playing and listening to the live guitar solo and being blown away. I thought to myself “Man, I’ve got a long way to go before I’m better than this guy”

The most humble musician on earth.

Hehe well maybe not. I think the guy definitely has attitude issues. One funny instance I think of is how that one guy did a bunch of Petrucci parodies on youtube, and Petrucci loved it and thought it was hilarious. But then the same guy makes a parody of Malmsteen, and Malmsteen freaks out and makes youtube remove the video. Anyway, I think the guy needs to relax.

That said, I absolutely love his playing. Other than his lack of diversity, he does what he does extremely well. And no one can deny he pushed the boundries for guitar playing. Amazing guitarist.

I respect his technical acheivements. Thats about it though. His music never appealed to me at all.

Big fan of his music and playing. Love his tone and vibrato.

Don’t think he’ll win any awards for modesty but I think that’s part of his image really and I’m sure he plays up to it.

Would love to see him play live!

I got to agree with you there Trev and yep would be great to see him live too šŸ™‚

I used to give Far Beyond The Sun the occasional listen, but every other song I’ve ever heard by Yngwie just seemed like a bad ripoff of it.

I listen to him all the time, and respect his playing greatly šŸ™‚ But he is a prick haha Everyones ego gets away from them sometimes though .. his just more than other šŸ˜‰

I caught him live many years back when he did G3 with Satch and Vai. It was totally cool seeing him. He stole the show in my opinion. He broke out his classical guitar too.

Although I do have to admit, when they did their last set when all 3 of them jam together, Malmsteen was a TOTAL solo hog. He would always start playing a couple bars before his turn. I felt bad for Joe and Steve, but it was also kinda funny haha. Good times. šŸ™‚

I was watching all the dvd’s and yeah he did.. but Vai and Satch never even really looked at him.. or aknowleged his playing..

He’s good alone but for jams… hes too repetitive and boring really..

Agreed. He just doesn’t have that “sportsmanlike conduct”. It’s like he didn’t realize that people were there to see Satch and Vai too, not just him. When I saw them jam it was just humorously awkward. Joe and Steve had the “that guy is crazy!” looks going on the whole time haha.

    Hah.. Definatly.

After rising force.. All his albums stunk for me. šŸ™ Mabye a good song or two on them.

Same for me actually. However, I TOTALLY enjoyed the Em Concerto cd he put out with the Japanese Orchestra. Ever hear that one? That’s actually probably my favorite cd of his.

How could I forget. Funny you say that I just watched the video of that last night.. Was pretty impressed.

    Icarus Dream Fanfare was amazing…

Any guitarist with an orchestra turns out awesome. :). But I think there was room for improvment on the orchestras side.. I think yngwie slacked off when writing some of there stuff.

Oh yeah? I actually haven’t seen the any video of it, just have the cd. I bet the dvd is pretty sweet. I’ll have to check it out.
