In this lesson, I provide a sample lead lick over a backing for a track off of my band's old album. The song titled "Believe" and has a pop/funk vibe to it. Very tempting to solo over!
This lick uses a combination of the minor pentatonic scale, and the mode of dorian. I combine hybrid picking with legato, with the majority of the run revolving around slides. If you have had the chance to hear me improvise over a backing, you may very well have heard part of this lick! If you do not feel comfortable with hybrid picking, you can easily use your pick for the upstrokes, as marked below.
