Hey everyone! This month, we're taking a look at triplets. Triplets (like any other tuplet) offer a very distinct rhythmic sound. The focus of this month's tutorial is taking our triplet runs to the next level; creating sub-divisions within a triplet phrase. I've devised six different approaches to a descending pattern in Am, using groupings of three, four, five, six, seven and nine. The main thing to pay close attention to while practicing and performing these runs, is to never deviate from keeping that "bouncy" triplet feel.
These patterns will help you to think differently about being too reliant on the first note of each down-beat being the starting point of a new sequence.
