Joe Pass Style Blues Guitar
Joe Pass is arguably one of the most important and historically significant Jazz Guitar players, in line with the likes of Wes Montgomery and the great Charlie Christian. More particularly though, when the discussion is about Chordal solos and bringing Jazz guitar into the Blues realm (or vice versa), Joe Pass is a figure you cannot overlook.
But this isn't a history lesson. This lesson we will be looking at a totally chordal based approach to the Blues in the style of Joe Pass.
In the video, I am playing a 3 chorus arrangement of a 12 bar blues. The entire transcription is available below. At your leisure join me in the accompanying lessons where I will break this tune up into smaller chunks for you to work on.
Enjoy!
