OK, time to take a deep breath as this one is a challenge!
I try to see this whole pattern as one entire lick rather than segments pieced together. Of course, it will be necessary to subdivide the parts so that you can put them together when you are ready to do so but it really helps me to see it as one lick.
There are a variety of techniques used here and it is essential to follow the slurs as and when they occur. I have followed Guthrie's lead by using hybrid picking for the ascending chromatic section but feel free to experiment with your own right hand picking patterns. I feel that is very important not to think that you 'must' do it a certain way as it can hinder rather than help.
