Hello all
I was just looking at the post about the OLP guitars and started to think.I’m wanting to buy an 80’s Charvel or a Jackson like i had before, but price is a big problem.Right now im trying to just get caught up from debt .I have had so much nice equipment but now all i have is a genric Cort electric which is playable but nothing like what im used to.I can tell you playing on top level guitars then going to a knockoff is a horrible experience haha.Anyways right now my goal is to buy a electric guitar around $250 and i would probably buy used to get a better model. What im looking for is a guitar set up with aleast a Humbucker at bridge and a pickup at neck, has to be something good for metal and lead playing and the biggest of all the damm thing has to stay in tune after bending and vibrato.
Any idea’s of a good guitar in this price range let me know.I could care less about the name but rather im after quality in parts and wood along with abality to stay in tune.Peavey tracer is another guitar i’ve came by that looks like it would work,i own a cheap model tracer, but they have ones with Kahler bridge’s and nice parts made in USA on ebay. There also around the 1980’s and early 90’s.Anyway let me know what you all find.

Hey Dan,
Just browsing around Ebay.com looking at Washburns there and it seems that theres recently been an end of line sellout on some 7-strings which means they are going for around 100-200 dollars. From what I can gather they seem to be solid guitars, stay in tune well, proper wood – alder. No tremolo I’m afraid but decent enough stock pickups and of course the bonus of an extra string, heres what one dude was saying about his on another forum;
Quote:I bought one at ******** for like $179. Its a damn nice guitar for the money. The finish is a little cobbled in some areas (clear not totally buffed in a small spot on one of the horns, tiny imperfections at the headstock) but if you weren’t looking for them you wouldnt see them.Neck pickup is a bit muddy, bridge pickup sounds great. The neck is a little rounder than the neck on my RG7620, but its very comfortable. It comes with a natural finish, Im going to rub some carnuba into it at some point.
All in all, the rumors and reviews you hear about it being great guitar for the money are spot on…Its a solid, well built instrument that plays and sounds great.
I also own an RG1077XL (main guitar), RG7620 w/707’s and a Dean EVO Special 7. Im proud to have the Washburn as part of my collection.

There’s an auction for one here:
Grover machine heads and Buzz Feiten tuning system probably means it keeps tune well, I wouldnt rate the stock pickups – they’re probably not brilliant – but if you clear up a bit of the debt you can always swap them out for something a bit better later on.
Hope this helps mate! š
Yes i had been actually watching these for awhile on ebay, but i questioned how well they were made along with wondering if using a 7 string would throw me off on lead playing and make it harder.Anyway i am starting to definatly consider getting one of these just to use for rythem playing so i dont have to tune down.
ThanksAs you’d probably gather from the other OLP thread, I’d definitely recommend the OLP Petrucci for that price range. However those Washburns look like a good deal as well. Good luck with the search and let us know what you end up getting!
Though there’s lots of great guitars in that price range, my favorite time and time again is the Ibanez Artist series.
Maple top
Mahogany Body
Set Neck
Decent Humbucking Pickups
Nice frets with good playability
Quality tuners and other hardware
Solid feel constructionIt’s my baseline I use for almost all amp test runs I take at guitar stores. Most stores carry an atrist model ibanez around $200-300 and they make fabulous amp testers. They’re easy enough to play, familiar in a way, and offer up some good tone ranges. They’re like a modern take on a les paul, and I really like it.
Thanks all for your replys.I do like the Ibanez aswell,im not sure if the Artist series would be really meant for shred and metal havent really seen them.I do know the RG Series would be great but they go high in price aswell for the quality.
Here is a Peavey Tracer im bidding on that i talked about in post. The white one looks really great for Metal, cant say i believe its really signed by Ted Nudget but thats no why i even want it http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330239238467&ssPageName=STRK:MEBI:IT&ih=014

schecter resale value is trash, but the guitars are quite good.
That last one you might be able to pickup for a steal, has a JB/59 pickup pairing and is at just under $70 at the moment.
Ibanez S series guitars are pretty good stuff too, here’s a pretty good deal on one:

Im suprised schecter resale value would be low. They have been around for a good while. They started out making parts for the guitar and working with Fender. Its a pretty interesting story how there buinsess has made it where it is today.I definatly like alot of there guitars especially th C1 that has vine inlays down the neck.
I love how schecters look, but for some reason I just can’t play them. I’m not sure if it’s the neck width, the scale, radius or what. But it’s just a bad combo for me.
They sure are puurdy though.
I like their radius, not a huge fan of their neck profile though. Regardless, I resold mine on the ‘bay recently. Guitar went for $399 new and I bought a $100 HSC for it and it went for a measly 221.50 w/ the HSC. I didn’t even get half out of it. I looked at some completed listings and unless it has a popular trim package like the Hellraiser series or is one of the signature models (Gates/Vengeance/ Loomis), then they were lucky if they got 40% of initial value.
I can highly recommend the Schecters, for the money they are almost unbeatable. Some people dont like the necks but I love them – I have a 7 string Hellraiser and its the easiest guitar to shred on Ive ever played. They have quality components and look great.
You know i dont think i have ever got to play a scheter before ,but man do they make some beautiful guitars that especially look good for metal .I wonder what the deal is with the neck because i’ve heard that a couple of times from people.I like a thin neck thats easy for shred but really in between a very thin Jackson dk2 neck to a fender stratocaster neck is good for me.I dont like a really round neck but kinda in between or thinner. Also alot of the scheters in the $400 + range come with Grover tuner’s which are really good quality

They do have a rounder fatter profile neck, but its actually better! I didnt think it would suit ‘shred’ styles of playing but its the fastest neck ive ever played. I have an Ibanez with the thin wizard neck, and whilst I like playing that too, the schecter is easier – Id definately give it a go!
Reverend guitars are amazing and not so pricey. Same goes for Michael Kelly guitars, which are really really good. They’re a little more expensive though.. Try them out š
i dont know if this helps but first acts are very inexpensive, lol, or an epiphone sg’s not bad either, around 600$, not bad, but its better than a 10,000 slash sig. les paul, lol
Cort guitars are also good, i have one of those and it sounds pretty good with a marshall half stack.
