Hi All,
Its that time of the year again when I can make my next purchase. Its not be gonna big though, just a small addition, but I want it to make a whole lot of difference to my sound š
As a background, I currently own these:
1. Ibanez Jem-Jr Guitar
2. Marshall MG30DFX amplifier
3. BOSS MT-2 MetalZone Pedal
4. Zoom 505II PedalMy aim is to purchase a pedal which will help shape my sound further. I’m horribly dissatisfied with my current sound. I don’t use the Zoom 505II at all, I’m not satisfied with the BOSS MT-2 (maybe I’ve not experiemented enough with it), don’t like the Ibanez sound much, but I love the Marshall Amp! I sometimes enjoy jamming just using the Amp (the reverb and delay are excellent).
I’m leaning towards a BOSS GE-7 Equalizer which offers a 7-band EQ. Also, a BOSS compressor/sustainer is on my mind. I can afford only one š I’ve got a EQ on the Zoom which I don’t use, but I’m hoping that the BOSS EQ will provide much better quality.
Would appreciate any suggestions and feel free to ask any questions.
Thanks,
Rohan

First off, at which volumes do you play these things?
These type of digital modulation equipment can often sound reasonable at low to moderate volumes.
But when you crank it, there is just nothing left of the tone.In you case, I would sell ALL of the above and buy a Blackstar HT-5 all tube combo.
Small enough for home use, and if you use it in a bigger cab you can still get pretty loud.
Best of all, it sounds GREAT! There is also a very cool Mini-stack avaliable =)

The HT-5 and the Marshall is just WORLDS apart in tone!A good thing is, that using a tube amp like this (regardless of size), it does take to the use of pedals
MUCH better than a solid-state Valvestate.SOme videos on Youtube (all of the head through a bigger cab, but the combo sounds just as good).

(with full band in practise, gets loud enough)Richard, thanks for the suggestions.
I’m not very well versed with guitar equipment, but I’m guessing you’re saying its best to go with a valve based amplifier and not solid-state. So if I can manage to get the Blackstar HT-5 head, that should be a good start, right? Is it possible to use a Marshall Amp (not a cabinet) with the HT-5 Head?
Saw the videos on YouTube, they sound aweome!
And its just for home practice and the occassional recording.
Thanks,
RohanHey Richard! Do you know any place here in the U.S. which might have stock of the
Blackstar HT-5? I’ve searched everywhere and can’t seem to find anyone selling it.
Thanks.Richard (Buckethead)
The only place I can get it right now (location India) is on YouTube! š
Get a Line 6 Pod Live XT or similar device. In the words of a great sound man I know:”Every guitar player needs a POD.”

The Guitar Center carries the Blackstar Amp http://www.guitarcenter.com/Blackstar.gc
Does anyone know if this amp will project loud enough over drums in a small pub environment. Playing pop rock. Not metal and anything extreme?????
