Latin Grooves
Exercise 1:
To get things started, let's break down a fairly basic latin groove. Commonly referred to as a "Clave", this feel is very often abducted into popular rock. Let's examine how it fits together and be sure to analyze pick directions. Also, pay very close attention to which beats contain the fully phrased G major and which are muted for the purpose of a contributing to the patterns percussiveness.
Exercise 2:
This pattern always gives people trouble. Be sure to examine the half-way point where the direction seems to reverse from down-strokes to up-strokes. The purpose for this is to execute the rhythm pattern commonly referred to as a "Naningo" groove.
